Getting Your Kids Involved in Scrapbooking + 2 Scrapbook Page Ideas

Scrapbooking, it’s a crafting medium that I’m passionate about. I’ve been creating my own scrapbook pages since the 1980’s, before it became all of the rage. Scrapbooking is a great way to preserve your family’s memories and it helps to reduce stress. Gotta love that!

Kid’s Craft Project: Iguana Paper Plates

Kid’s Craft Project: Iguana Paper Plates

Kid's Craft Project: Iguana Paper PlateFor the past few months my grandchildren have been cooped up thanks to the nasty & cold winter weather. When its too cold outside to go out and play, I try to keep them busy indoors with various arts & craft projects.

Today’s kid’s craft project is a super-easy one and its appropriate for both little boys and girls. In addition, you probably have all of the supplies on-hand. We made this craft with an 8 year old boy and a 7 year old girl. Just giving you ages, so you know which age group it would be appropriate for.

Tip: Look up information about Iguanas from the internet and print out some photos and facts. Using this arts & crafts time to educate the little one’s on Iguanas and which country they hail from. Supplies list is “per project”. Not fond of Iguana’s? You can make it in a lizard theme.

Pattern: You can find hundreds of FREE Iguana and Lizard templates online. Let the child decide if they want to make a lizard or an iguana or let them “hand draw” their own pattern. If you’re looking for a lizard one, you can find one HERE.

Kid’s Craft Project: Iguana Paper Plates

2 White Paper Plates
1 Metal Brad
1 Box of Markers
1 Wiggle Eye
Scissors
Paper Pattern
Pencil

Have the child hand-draw or trace an image of an Iguana or Lizard onto the front of one white paper plate. Use scissors to cut out the image on the traced line. Set aside.

Using different colored markers, have the child scribble colors onto the second white paper plate or have them draw & color their own picture. Stress to the child that they will need to use thick lines and areas, so that they get good coverage on the paper plate with the colors. See our example below.

Kid's Craft Project: Iguana Paper Plate

Once the marker ink is dry, layer paper plate number one onto paper plate number two and fasten them together in the center with a metal brad. Apply one wiggle eye onto the top paper plate (self-adhesive) or use a tiny dot of white craft glue. That’s it, you’re done!

Kid’s can spin the top plate around and their Iguana or Lizard will change colors depending on where the “cut-out” area lands on the bottom paper plate.

Movie and Craft Day with Dreamworks Trolls #BringHomeHappy

When my daughter was a teenager, she fell head-over-heels in love with the Trolls. For about 2 years, she collected anything & everything related to them, including hundreds of fuzzy-haired figures & dolls. Fast forward to 2017 and my daughter is once again loving the

Kid’s Craft Project: Easy Dream Catchers

Kid’s Craft Project: Easy Dream Catchers

Kid's Craft Project: Dream CatcherChildren love to be creative and as parents, grandparent’s and care-givers, it’s our job to give them the tools to do it. While some craft projects cost a lot of money and take a lot of time, this particular one is relatively inexpensive and whips up quickly. The supplies list is PER dream catcher.

Kid’s Craft Project: Dream Catcher

4 Different Colored Pipe Cleaners
3 Different Colored Craft Feathers
10-12 Plastic Pony Beads
Thin Brown Twine
Scissors

Take two pipe cleaners and twist them together to form one. Take the other two pipe cleaners and twist them together to form one. Now take BOTH of them and twist the ends together to form a circle.

Cut three pieces of twine in different lengths. Tie one end of twine onto the pipe cleaner circle and the other end onto the stem of the crafting feather. You’ll want to space them out around the lower half of the circle that you formed.

Next, cut five pieces of twine at varying lengths, but make sure they are longer than the circumference of your circle. One end of each piece will be tied onto the circle and then thread two to three plastic pony beads onto it and tie the remaining end onto the circle. Use the above photo for reference and use scissors to trim off the ends. You’ll want to form a criss-cross pattern.

Once done, cut off an additional piece of twine and tie it to the top of your circle. Tie a loop on the other end of the twine to form a little hanger, so that children can hang up their new dream catchers.

Kids can get creative with these and add more beads, different shapes & sizes of beads and so forth. One of the ones that we made we glued a faux butterfly onto the edge of the Dream Catcher and that looked cute too.
