123 Sesame Street Garbage Truck Wood Paint Kit from Master Pieces

This DIY kid’s painting kit encourages hand-eye coordination, promotes fine motor skills, and inspires creativity. It’s a great rainy day or snow day DIY craft project to keep the kids busy.

Garbage Truck is made out of light-weight, unpainted wood. It reminds me of balsam wood and the truck has moving wheels. Once painted kids can play with it by filling up the back portion of the truck, sticking their little figures inside the truck to drive it around, etc. Once painted kids will peel and stick the decorative stickers onto the garbage truck to decorate it.

My son is 6 years old and even though he’s not into Sesame Street too much anymore, he does love DIY art and craft kits. His grandmother got him into arts and crafts at an early age and he looks forward to doing them. This one has everything you need to get started. I just recommend that you cover your work surface with a drop cloth, sheets of newspaper, an old plastic table cloth, whatever…because kids can be messy painters!

If you don’t want to work with clean soup can lids you can substitute with metal mason jar lids. An adult will need to use a drill to make the hole at the top of each ornament. Let the kids get creative and paint their own designs! They can be cute or spooky! Younger kids can make this project using acrylic paint pen markers while older children can use regular acrylic paints and a paint brush.

Halloween Ghosts Painted Soup Can Lid Ornaments

Clean Soup Can Lids
Acrylic Craft Paint – Black and White
Orange Paint Pen
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish
Clear Fishing Line
Scissors

Base coat the front and back of the soup can lid with 2 coats of black acrylic paint. Allow 30 minutes between coats. Flip it over and paint the other side when the paint is no longer tacky. Let completely dry before adding the design on top.

My 12 year old granddaughter made the one shown in the photograph. She used white acrylic paint to make the ghost. She used an orange colored paint pen to write the word BOO above the ghost’s head. Let dry. She then used a paint brush and black paint to make the ghost’s eyes and mouth. The eyes should be oval shaped and the mouth should be round but with uneven edges. Let everything completely dry.

Take the soup can lids outside and lightly spray them with 2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. We like the glossy finish. Let dry until no longer tacky. Cut off an 8″ long piece of clear fishing line and thread it through the top hole. Knot the two ends together, trim the ends with scissor if needed. That’s it, you’re done!
