Congratulations! You have made it to your dream university. We are sure you are ecstatic about it. The hype and restlessness to start life at your new college or university is a distinct feeling. The feeling of accomplishment after being admitted is very happy.
However, for some of us, this also means it’s time to part ways with our homes. Not all of us live near our college campus. Thus, hostel dorms are what we are left with. Even for those of us who do live close, you might want to experience the dorm life.
Home Away From Home
Dorms are our homes for as long as we complete our degrees. They are our resting place. In essence, they are our homes away from our homes. Thus, we need to make sure we do as much as we can to make them feel at home as well.
There are a number of steps you can take to make your dorm room feel more like home. In this article, we have listed some of the easy and cheap ways you can create a more homey and personal vibe.
1: Wall Posters
Wall posters are perhaps the oldest way in the book. They help elevate your room and give it a distinct feel. Posters are cheap and easily available from almost all gift and stationery stores. If you want to go out of the box, you can get them customized to your liking as well.
Some of the most popular wall posters ideas are from movies, sports, and your favorite celebrities. You can also get motivational posters for that extra motivation boost every morning. Either way, wall posters are sure to make you feel more comfortable and at home in your dorm room.
2: Proper Lighting
Lighting can really set the mood for any place. Traditionally dorm rooms do not have the best lighting. Wireless speakers are a good investment. They come in handy for almost all occasions. And even if there is no occasion, you can always sit back, put on your favorite music and enjoy. Small activities like this go a long way in making your dorm room feel like home.
Wireless speakers are very cheap and common these days. You can probably even find one at your dollar store ( not for a dollar though). Places like best buy sell them too if you want to go for higher quality.
5: Warm Up Your Floor
While some dorm rooms have carpets, a lot of them don’t. If your dorm room does not, we would suggest investing in a carpet. Carpets are a great addition to any room. They bring warmth and a homey feeling to the room. They are also a lot easier for you to clean in comparison to wooden flooring.
We would suggest going for a lighter shade since bright carpets usually get dirty too soon. You can even reuse an older carpet instead of buying a new one.

There is no doubt that college life is one of the best times of your life. There is so much that you can learn and experience. Thus, it would be a shame if you did not get to live that to the fullest just because you missed your home. Therefore, making sure that your dorm room feels like home is very important.
