Frugal Finds – Hitting the Flea Market for Coastal Front Porch Decor

Coastal Whale Tail Cast Iron Wall Hooks

Coastal Whale Tail Cast Iron Wall Hooks

Coastal Whale Tail Cast Iron Wall HooksThree years ago we decided to undertake a major remodeling project in our home. We decided to completely gut our large living room and remodel it. Over the past three years it has gotten new walls, a new ceiling, 4 new windows, new recessed lighting, woodwork trim, a new door, a coat closet, etc. Last week it finally got a new coat of paint!

Now for the decorating! I decorate in a Coastal Cottage style through my home, so this process will take some time to find the perfect pieces. I want everything to be just right…comfortable, cozy, and with a relaxed feeling that you’re on a vacation to the beach.

There’s a wall beside the front door that sits between the door and a large window. It’s a decent sized space. I wanted something there for us to hang our coats on during the colder months of the year. I hate seeing coats and jackets thrown all over the place or hanging off the back of chairs! Hate it!

For several months I was looking at coat racks and NONE fit within my decor. I finally found these cute Whale Tail Cast Iron Wall Hooks on Amazon and ordered them. They come in different colors, slightly different styles, and sizes. The wall hooks come in dolphin tails, mermaid tails, anchors, starfish, sand dollars, seashells, and other shapes.

What’s really nice about them is that they’re sturdy since they’re made out of Cast Iron. Installation is easy. Each tail takes 2 screws to adhere it up onto the wall. If you’re going to be hanging extremely heavy items you’ll want to locate a stud, other than that…hanging them onto the drywall should be fine for lighter items.

I opted for 2 in a distressed white color and 1 in a distressed seaglass teal color. I didn’t want all 3 of them being the same color. I also staggered them when hanging them up to add interest. Above them I hung my new wood oar paddle as it fit perfectly in the space above them. They look so cute!

Our walls are painted a light coastal gray color. Sometimes when the sunlight hits it…you’ll see an undertone of a blue-gray color. All of the wood trim work was painted white…but not a stark white. The two colors work beautifully together in my coastal cottage home.

Over the next 6-10 weeks I’ll share a few decorating ideas with you as I start redecorating our new living room. I’m excited to get the project done and hopefully we’ll be celebrating the upcoming holidays in it! Once it’s done…we’ll be gutting and remodeling the dining room. Stay tuned!
