How to Shop for Primitive, Country and Americana Home Decor

Primitive, Country, and Americana Home Decor is one of the most popular styles of home decorating across the mid-west and in the north east. Living just 45 minutes from Lancaster Amish Country, we see a lot of it! It’s been popular for several decades and continues to be strong.

Primitive, Country and Americana Home Decor

My one friend Renee decorates her entire home in it! I’m talking about every room, from top to bottom! She has handcrafted and store bought pieces. It’s easy to mix-n-match the items throughout your home if you stick within the main color scheme of barn red, Americana blue, mustard yellow, black, hunter green, and beige.

Let’s take a look at the 4 pieces I purchased for her last month while out bargain shopping. The 4 items were purchased at 2 different retail stores and from different manufacturers. As you can tell, they coordinate well together thanks to the color scheme.

This decorating style doesn’t cost a fortune! All 4 of these items were purchased on clearance and at a bargain basement price! The Faith and Family with Sheep wood wall plaque was marked down to $3.00. The Live Simply with the red house was marked down to $3.00. The little red wood heart that says Friends was marked down to $2.50 and the Faith with a rusty metal star was marked down to $3.00. Total for all 4 pieces was less than $12.00. These are not miniature pieces!

You can shop flea markets, yard sales, Etsy, Ebay, retail stores, country boutiques, etc. and find a lot to choose from. When giving this type of decor as a gift (like I did), you want to stick within the main color scheme. Look for accent pieces, not a big focal point. Don’t be afraid to buy second hand (if it’s in great shape). If you’re looking for unique, then look for hand-crafted items.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Home Fragrance

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Home Fragrance

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Home FragranceWhen thinking of ways to freshen up your home, you might think about scents like citrus, spice, or flowers. After all, what better way to make your abode feel clean and bright than with some fresh scents? But there’s more to it than just choosing the most obvious scents.

Instead, you need to choose the right home fragrance that complements your personal style and your home. The right scent can make your home feel warm, welcoming, and even relaxing. But which type of scent is best for your home? Here are a few tips for choosing the perfect one.

What to Look for in a Home Fragrance

Before you can even start to think about finding the right scent for your home, you should probably get a home air purifier because while the perfect fragrance can help cover up bad smells that are capable of spoiling your mood or making you uncomfortable, a home air purifier has the potential to remove the contaminants that cause them in the first place, giving the fragrance more room to be effective in your home.

With that said, when choosing a fragrance for your home, you need to decide what type of scent you want. In order to do this, you need to consider how you normally spend time in your home.

What are some of the activities you normally do in your living space? What do you typically associate with these activities? What are some of the scents you associate with those activities?

For example, if you generally spend time cooking in your kitchen or having dinner parties there, the scent of food and spices may come to mind when you think about a home fragrance.

Similarly, if you spend time with friends and family in your dining room or bedrooms, the scent of clean linen or flowers may be more appropriate.

Citrus Fragrances

The fact is, there are different types of scents, and some may be better for certain types of spaces or individual personalities. Here are a few examples:

– Fresh scents are great for kitchens and dining spaces. These scents are clean and bright, and they make these spaces feel more inviting.
– Relaxing scents are perfect for bedrooms, lounges, and other relaxing areas. These scents are warm, calming, and soothing.
– Spicy scents are great for bedrooms and kitchens, and they create a sense of space and flow.
– Floral scents are ideal for bathrooms and nurseries, and they make these spaces feel clean and bright.

Keep an open mind

While you do want to make sure your home fragrance fits your lifestyle and your space, it’s also important to keep an open mind. That is to say, you don’t have to like every scent you try out. In fact, you might not even like one of them at first. You just have to keep trying new things until you find one that you enjoy.

Match your mood

Choosing the perfect home fragrance isn’t just about finding a smell that is pleasant and welcoming; it’s about finding a scent that complements your mood. What are you doing when you are at home? Is there a particular mood that you want to make feel warm and inviting? For example, if you sometimes get stressed out while you’re in your home, it might be a good idea to pick out a scent that gets you in the right frame of mind.

Match your home fragrance to your personality

One of the easiest ways to find the perfect home fragrance is to pick out a scent that complements your personality. What do you like to do when you’re at home? What are your hobbies? What are your interests? These are all things you can look into when picking out a home fragrance. If you want a scent that will make your home feel warm and inviting, pick out one that will complement your personality.

Think About Your Guests

Choosing the perfect home fragrance doesn’t just have to be about you; it can also be about your guests. After all, if someone comes over to your home for a visit, what kind of smell are you hoping for? A good rule of thumb is to think about the kinds of guests you most often have over.
If you often have casual guests over, it might be a good idea to pick out a light and welcoming scent. If you often have guests who are more serious, pick a scent that is more formal.

Get Inspired by the Seasons

If you’re looking to add a little something extra to your home scent, consider adding a scent that flows with the seasons. What are some of the natural scents that happen throughout the year? Are there any flowers that bloom during certain seasons? By adding a seasonal scent to your home fragrance, you can turn your home into a little bit of spring, summer, autumn, or winter whenever you like.

Don’t Be Afraid to Try Out Neutral Scents

Depending on your personality, it might be easier to pick a fragrance for a particular section of your home than it is to pick one that feels right for your entire home. For example, you may be able to choose a scent for your bedroom, but you might want something different for your kitchen. If that’s the case, try choosing a neutral scent for your home fragrance. Neutral scents aren’t exactly bland, but they don’t have much of a personality either.

Wrapping Up

Choosing the right home fragrance can be tricky, and you might feel overwhelmed by the idea of picking one out. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be as hard as you might think. These tips will help you find the perfect home fragrance for you and your home.
