I don’t know anyone that wouldn’t like to save a bit of money and ease their budget just a bit. Perhaps you need to save for an upcoming family vacation or you want to pay off a household bill. Whatever your reasons are, there are some really easy things you can do around your own home to save money.
1. Laundry: When doing your laundry, wash your clothing in cold water. I switched to cold water last year and my clothing is just as clean if I had washed them in warm or hot water. To save on laundry detergent and to help our environment, switch to laundry soap nuts and a laundry wash ball. Both of these alternatives are cheaper than traditional laundry detergent and are earth friendly. In addition, only do laundry when you have full loads to wash. Line dry your clothes when possible or run your dryer early in the morning or after 7 pm for energy savings.
2. Dishwashing: Cleaning your dishes, cookware and utensils in the dishwasher is quick and easy. However, it is also expensive to run the dishwasher daily. When you have the time or just a few dishes, hand wash your items and watch your electric bill drop! If you have to use the dishwasher, use the air dry cycle and only run it when full.
3. Disposable Paper Products: A few years ago we quit purchasing paper towels, paper napkins, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, freezer bags, paper plates, etc. Instead invest in cotton napkins, microfiber hand towels and plastic reusable freezer containers. You can pick up these products for about $50.00 and save approximately $150 a year buy eliminating disposable products from your household budget.
4. Printed Media Publications: If you get pay for home delivered newspapers and magazines, cancel them! You can read many of these publications online for free. Another alternative is to ask friends and family to save their print publications for you when they are done with them.
5. DVD Rentals: You all know that renting a movie for $1 is great until you forget to return it a few days in a row. Save your cash and look at online alternatives like a Roku, Hulu, Netflix and other online streaming movies that can go right to your TV now. One other alternative is to swap your DVDs with another family member or friend so that you have a constant supply of new movies to watch.
6. Shop Thrift Stores and Consignment Shops: When you need new clothing and/or household items, consider shopping at your local thrift store and consignment shops. A lot of people avoid these types of stores thinking that there is a negative stigma attached to those who shop resale stores. But it is great to be frugal and shop resale stores!
As you can see these six tips can add up and save you money! If you find it hard to implement all six into your household right now just choose one or two, then add more once your family adjusts to the changes.

I am not a happy camper when I have to go shopping. I really dislike it any more, especially when it is 106 outside. The last thing I was to do is go shop at crowded stores. I have been known to shop at 11:00 …
A year and a half ago my husband and I moved into our new home. As we remodel each of the rooms, I have been on the hunt for new furniture and home decor items to make the rooms complete. For this, I have mostly …
Now that summer has arrived, it’s time to ensure all our hard work during the spring pays off – especially outside! The next time you water your garden or lawn, or the deck and family car, imagine using a three- piece watering system that is designed to keep you dry by eliminating leaks from faucet to nozzle.
Let me introduce you to the LeakFree Watering System by Gilmour…the best garden hose and adjustable spray nozzle that we have ever used! Seriously, this is one of the MUST-HAVE products of the season!
For our review we received the LeakFree Starter Kit which includes:
* Facet-to-Hose Adaptor (dual-seal connection, fits most U.S. faucet designs).
* LeakFree Heavy Duty 50 Foot Hose (triple-seal connection, easy-change auto shutoff, 400PSI pressure rated for superior hose life, high flexibility & kink resistance, all weather performance).
* Adjustable Spray Nozzle (triple-seal connection, rotating tip adjusts spray pattern from jet to mist, flow control knob regulates water force, trigger requires 4X less effort).
Our Thoughts: One of the things that is really impressive about this product is that the company stands behind it! The Starter Kit comes with a limited 7 year warranty and we all know that most garden hoses don’t even come close to that!
We needed a high-quality garden hose & watering system because we are currently working on 3 big home remodeling projects and redoing a lot of our landscaping. Most of these projects are outdoors, so having a great hose is a must! On top of that…we have 4 flower gardens and 2 vegetable gardens that need watered every other day.
When the LeakFree Starter Kit arrived hubby sat down and read over all of the instructions. Within a few minutes he had it all connected and took it out into the backyard to attach it to the faucet. What is really surprising is that even though it’s a high-quality garden hose, it is light enough for both of us to drag it around our yard.
We used it first for watering our vegetable gardens and were immediately impressed that we had no water leaks around the faucet or around the spray nozzle. Nope, none at all!
Next, we really love the adjustable spray nozzle which has several different settings. You can control the water force via a small knob and you also can control the type of stream you would like. You can go from a fine mist clear up to a powerful jet stream.
The following day we used the LeakFree Watering System when hubby needed water to pour our new patio & deck cement foundation outside. It worked perfectly for that too! While he was working on that, I used the garden hose on a powerful jet stream function to wash all of the dirt & debris off of our windows and house siding. It did a fabulous job and I didn’t have to use a scrub brush!
This is seriously the BEST garden hose & watering system we have ever used! Watering the garden used to be a chore we both dreaded, now we fight over who is going outside to water the gardens!
