How to Display Your Seashells During the Autumn Season

How to Display Your Seashells During the Autumn Season

Fall is finally here and I’ve been busy changing out my summer decorations over to my Autumn ones. As someone who decorates her home in a beach & coastal style, it can be difficult at times coming up with fall decorating ideas. Well, last week I solved some of those problems!

I had collected a lot of seashells from our summer vacation and had them displayed in a white wicker basket. I decided to use some of the shells in my Autumn decorating and my project turned out nicely!

If you enjoy painting on seashells or crafting with seashells…you’ll find over 70+ seashell craft projects right here on the Two Classy Chics blog! We will be sharing more seashell craft projects in the future too!

Hand Painted Metallic Seashells for Fall

At my local craft store I purchased bronze and gold metallic acrylic paints. They had them on sale for $1.00 per bottle. I enjoy using acrylic paints because they’re easy-to-use, they dry fast and they’re affordable.

After I laid down some old newspaper onto my craft table I got busy painting some of my seashells with the metallic paints. For the most part, each seashell got 2 coats of paint for even coverage. It took them about 60 minutes to thoroughly dry. If you want to give them a nice sheen, you can spray them with a coat of clear acrylic spray sealer.

In addition to the seashells I had collected some large acorns, small twigs and small river rocks while out on a nature walk. I painted them just like the seashells and mixed them into my display. This really gave me the Autumn look that I was going for!

So, how did I use my new fall goodies around my home? Well, I have several of them displayed in a glass sunflower bowl sitting on my one end table in the living room, several others are displayed in a brown wicker basket and a few of the larger ones are displayed in my china hutch. I took 8 of the newly painted scalloped seashells and glued each one onto a dark orange satin ribbon and then turned them into napkin rings. Just tie them around your cloth napkins for a DIY look on your dining room table.

You can use them in a ton of different ways! Place them in a flower vase, ceramic planter, layer them into a larger abalone shell, toss them onto a charger plate, fill up a hurricane candle holder or fill up an empty hanging lantern. The sky is the limit and this is just the tip of the iceberg on how you can use them in your Fall decorating.

Matter of fact, I have a clear glass pumpkin cookie jar that I’m going to get out of attic next weekend and I think I’ll fill that up with some of these goodies too!

Welch's Fruit Snacks Halloween Candy

We get hit with over 75+ Trick or Treaters every year, so I always make sure that I’m well-stocked with a variety of Halloween treats! I like to offer “non-candy” options to kid’s who don’t eat candy or prefer something else, I offer little individual packs of Gerber Baby Food to the littlest ones who visit my home and all kinds of chocolate, dried fruit and nut snacks for the others. Plus, some of these options are my personal favorites, so it’s nice to have those “extras” on-hand for my own personal snacking consumption.

A big hit with my 2 little grandchildren are the Welch’s Fruit Snacks in mixed fruit flavors. Have you ever tried them? They’re an excellent source of Vitamin C, a good source for Vitamins A & E, Fat-Free, Gluten Free and contain no preservatives. If you want to offer Trick or Treater’s something yummy and fruity, these are a great option if you want to avoid the chocolate.

Another big hit, especially with the older children, teens and adults is those delicious Sunkist Trail Mix Fruit & Nut Snack Packs! We love them in the Pineapple Coconut Blend and in the Strawberry Banana Blend.  The Pineapple Coconut Blend contains pieces of dried pineapple, cranberries, almonds, papaya, cashews and coconut. The Strawberry Banana Blend contains pieces of strawberries, cashews, papaya, cranberries, almonds and banana chips. YUMMY!  They contain no artificial colors or flavors.

Here are a few additional tips:

Don’t buy your Halloween candy the day after Halloween and save it for next year! No one wants to eat stale goodies! You’re giving treats out to children, so it’s best to give recently purchased treats!

The majority of parents will NOT allow their children to eat homemade goodies, so please avoid making them & handing them out. This is especially true with parents who do NOT personally know you.

Offer a variety of different treats! Some children may be allergic to nuts, others allergic to chocolate and so forth. I feel it’s best to offer at least 2 different edible treats and 1 non-edible treat when it comes to Trick or Treat night.

Don’t forget the babies! These days parents will take out their 6 month old’s to go Trick or Treating with their older siblings! If you can, have something on hand for the babies too!

Avoid purchasing any treats that need to be refrigerated. Make sure you check out package expiration dates and product recall lists too! It’s always better to be safe, than sorry.
