Coastal Halloween Craft Project – Painted Jack ‘o Lantern Seashells

Coastal Halloween Craft Project – Painted Jack ‘o Lantern Seashells

I enjoy sitting down with my grandchildren twice a month to work on easy craft projects. Last weekend we sat down and painted Halloween designs onto 4″ and 5″ wide clam seashells that we picked up from the beach while on vacation. Painting on seashells

Kid’s Crafts: Halloween Ghost Painted Soup Can Lid Ornaments

Painted Soup Can Lid Halloween Ghost Craft ProjectHalloween is just around the corner and these adorable Ghost painted soup can lid ornaments are just the craft project to keep the kids (or adults) busy! You can make several of them in just a weekend with clean soup can lids, acrylic paints and a few other craft supplies. Once completed you can hang them outside off of your bushes and trees or hang them up inside as Halloween party decor.

If you don’t want to work with clean soup can lids you can substitute with metal mason jar lids. An adult will need to use a drill to make the hole at the top of each ornament. Let the kids get creative and paint their own designs! They can be cute or spooky! Younger kids can make this project using acrylic paint pen markers while older children can use regular acrylic paints and a paint brush.

Acrylic Craft Paint – Black and White
Orange Paint Pen
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish
Clear Fishing Line

Base coat the front and back of the soup can lid with 2 coats of black acrylic paint. Allow 30 minutes between coats. Flip it over and paint the other side when the paint is no longer tacky. Let completely dry before adding the design on top.

My 12 year old granddaughter made the one shown in the photograph. She used white acrylic paint to make the ghost. She used an orange colored paint pen to write the word BOO above the ghost’s head. Let dry. She then used a paint brush and black paint to make the ghost’s eyes and mouth. The eyes should be oval shaped and the mouth should be round but with uneven edges. Let everything completely dry.

Take the soup can lids outside and lightly spray them with 2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. We like the glossy finish. Let dry until no longer tacky. Cut off an 8″ long piece of clear fishing line and thread it through the top hole. Knot the two ends together, trim the ends with scissor if needed. That’s it, you’re done!

Coastal Jack O’ Lantern Halloween Pumpkin Craft Project

This coastal Jack O’ Lantern is really easy to make! It was made from a $3.99 plastic orange pumpkin that came with a removable battery-operated light. You know the ones that I’m talking about…those ugly (at least to me) orange plastic pumpkins that you can

Fun, Frugal, Finds: Haunted Halloween Gingerbread House Kits

Fun, Frugal, Finds: Haunted Halloween Gingerbread House Kits

Frugal Finds and Hot DealsHow many of you enjoy going out after a holiday to look for bargains? I enjoy going bargain hunting but ONLY go during a weekday after a holiday has concluded. I stay away from the stores on weekends due to being over-crowded. Sure….things get picked through but I can still find some awesome deals!

Halloween fell on a Thursday this year so I headed out to two of my favorite stores on Friday November 1st to look for some deals.

Big Lots was my first stop and I found bargain deals on left-over Halloween candy. I picked up 6 bags of chocolate candy for 75% off. They rang up at .80 per bag! I found a “bat theme” hanging windchime that’s motion activated. When someone walks by the bats swing and make spooky noises. Regular price $19.99 Clearance price $1.96.

Haunted Gingerbread House Kits for Halloween

Rite Aid was my second stop where I found more clearance deals on Halloween candy and picked up 4 more bags at .99 cents per bag. I’ll be dropping off most of this candy to a local senior’s center down the street. I picked up two Halloween greeting cards (to send next year to my grandchildren) for 60% off, so each one came down to .75 cents. At the end of the one aisle I found these cute Haunted Halloween Gingerbread Houses Kits that were 80% off. I picked up two kits at $1.69 each. Even though Halloween is over we’re going to build them with the grandchildren this coming weekend. Should be fun!

What kind of bargains and deals have you found lately? A lot of times I will go out and hunt down bargains and then donate them to local Senior Centers, Homeless Shelters, Animal Rescue Groups, Veteran Centers, etc. depending on the items that I find. So, don’t forget about picking up a few things and donating them too!
