Curbside Chaos’ Yard Makeover Results + Fall Gardening and Planting Tips

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Bulbs. Dig, Drop, Done. for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

It is hard to believe but Fall/Autumn 2012 is finally here! For the past 2 weeks my husband and I have been busy working on our landscaping and getting some flower bulbs planted for blooming next year. We are new to Fall flower gardening and learning along the way.
I found a really great web site called Curbside Chaos which has really helped to educate us on what kind of flower bulbs we can plant in our gardening zone and when we should be planting them. The site is really easy-to-use and we both have enjoyed using it.
Recently Curbside Chaos held a Yard Makeover and the lucky winner won a beautiful backyard makeover and a visit from Taniya Nayak. I was watching the video that they made of the visit and makeover, and was really impressed with what I saw.
In the video, I saw them using some beautiful colored lilies and some gorgeous looking gladiolas in the backyard makeover. That got me to thinking, I need some of those pretty flowers too and I think they would look gorgeous planted around our gazebo in the backyard.
Fall Gardening TipsIf I would ever win a $5,000 yard makeover, I would get a tall white trellis and plant some Roses of Sharon around them and perhaps some climbing green ivy. Nearby I would put in a solar bird bath/water fountain and plant some additional flowers around that.
Are you on the Social Media site called Twitter? If so, you can share (just a quick and easy Tweet) ~ Dig, Drop, Done with the hashtag #CurbsideChaos and the company will donate $1.00 to Rebuilding Together, the nations leading non-profit that works to preserve affordable home ownership and to revitalize older communities. I think that is fabulous and we can all contribute, even in this small way.
Anyway, hubby and I have been pretty busy with our Fall planting but I wanted a few more ideas. I decide to use their Garden Guru Tools (bottom left side of the page) to locate my area of the country and then my state within the planting zone.
I would like to have some flowers coming up and blooming in the springtime, around May to be exact and their handy dandy Garden Guru Tool told me that I should be planting Daffodil bulbs right now. I love that it even gave me a few nifty tips which will help to guarantee my planting and gardening success. I think I will plant a mixture of Daffodil bulbs (the full-size and the miniatures) and in both white and yellow colors.
Now that Fall has really set in, we need to get busy and finish up all of our Fall planting. I am really excited to see how this all turns out and hopefully next spring, I will have a beautiful yard with a ton of blooming flowers.
A great tip that I found from their web site is that flower bulbs are just not for gardening. You can put many of these types of flower bulbs in some indoor planters and plant them inside your house or place of business. I have never tried container gardening before, so I need to learn a little more about that. In addition, you can give potted flowers as gifts and they are great to give around Valentine’s Day, Easter and Mother’s Day.
Will you be planting any flower bulbs this Fall and if so, which ones? I would love to hear about what you are planting! Any tips for the newbie gardener that you would like to share? If so, leave your comments, suggestions and tips in our blog’s comment form. Thanks!

My Hydrangeas are in Full Bloom!

Hydrangeas

I love flowers and one of my favorite types of flowers are purple and blue Hydrangeas! Last year when Hurricane Irene blew through our area she really made a mess of my garden and flower beds. I wasn’t sure if anything would bloom this year after the hurricane wacked the heck out of them.

Well…I am here today to tell you that BOTH of my Hydrangea bushes are in full bloom and their blooms are bigger and fuller than ever! Perhaps all of that tropical rainfall did them some good!

I went out this morning and cut myself some fresh blooms and have a vase full of them on my dinner table and on the entryway table. It is smelling super nice in my home today! Love it!!!

Do any of you have Hydrangea bushes? How are yours doing this year?
