12 Fun Games for Family Game Night

The Claw Electronic Arcade Game

The Claw Electronic Arcade Game

The Claw Electronic Arcade GameThe Claw is one of the most popular arcade games with children. They simply put their quarter or token into the machine and use the controls to try to grab a prize. The game requires some skill but you can get “lucky” from time to time too!

Our grandchildren love to visit the arcade and one of their favorite games to play is The Claw. Most of the arcades that we visit charge you .25 to .50 cents per game to play and often times the reward is a new stuffed animal or toy. The kids gravitate to that game and enjoy all of their new “stuffed friends” that they receive when they win.

The Claw Electronic Arcade Game

Last month I saw The Claw Electronic Arcade Game over on Amazon and purchased it for the kids. Once it arrived I did have to install batteries, since its an electronic game. I then headed to my local Dollar Tree store to buy some inexpensive toys and candy to stuff inside it. You need to make sure that the goodies fit down inside the opening at the top. If they do, they will fit through the bottom if they grab it and win.

The electronic game takes quarters. We have our grandchildren do chores around our house or their house to earn their own quarters. They can then use them to try to win a prize. We take the money that goes into the machine and use that to buy goodies to refill it. It has been teaching them to do their chores, to earn money and then to use that money on things they want to do. A win-win!

You’ll find 3 hand controls on the front of the machine. One makes the claw go back & forth, one makes it go left to right and the third one makes it drop down. Right beside the controls you’ll see the coin slot and to the left of that you’ll see the opening on where the prize comes out of the machine.

We have a family game room in our home with all kinds of electronic games, a pool table, pin ball machine, air hockey table, etc. So we keep The Claw in our game room where the kids can easily access it. Even as an adult I find it challenging and fun to play.

The Claw Electronic Arcade Game would make a great birthday gift, Easter gift or Christmas gift. A nice addition to our game room and finally something that the kids can play with no adult assistance. Plus, its teaching them money skills too.

What Comes to Mind? is a game where great minds think and score alike! The game is made by Endless Games and is for ages 10 to 110. You will need 3 or more people to play it.

What Comes to Mind by Endless Games

The game includes:

1 Deck of 75 Double-Sided Statement/Photo Cards
100 Answer/Score Sheets
1 Instruction Sheet
4 Pencils
Plus the Storage Box

Object: Score the most points by having the greatest number of responses that match those of the other players.

What Comes to Mind Game

Playing the Game: Any player draws the top card in the deck and reads the first statement/prompt at the top of the card. All players then secretly write down on their scoring sheet whatever response “comes to mind”. Once everyone has written ONE response, players reveal what they have written. For each response that matches his/her response, the player receives 1 point. (example: If two players have the same response, each receives 1 point). If three players have the same response, they each receive 2 points, etc. Players record points they have earned on their score sheet next to their responses starting at the top and continuing down the sheet throughout the game. Play continues with any player reading aloud the subsequent statement/prompt on the card, until all five statements on the card have been read and the scores recorded.

What Comes to Mind Game

Image Round: Once all five statements on the card have been completed, all players are shown the image on the other side of the card. As before, players secretly write down on their sheet “what comes to mind”. When the responses are revealed, players receive two points for each matching answer with another player.

Winning the Game: Once three cards have been played and all scores have been recorded, players total their score for all three cards. The player with the most points is the winner.

Example of a Card: One card shows the following on one side: A school supply for a first grader, It’s purple, Major _________, A movie with more than one sequel, A part of a computer. When you flip the card over you see an image of a particular item (that’s the image round as explained above).

What Comes to Mind Game

We got together for family game time and had the following adults playing the game (age 70, age 57, age 52 and age 36) and one child almost 11 years of age. As you can see…that’s quite an age range and everyone thoroughly enjoyed playing it.

Games like this are simple to play and really get your mind thinking…I like to refer to games like this as “keeping our minds sharp”. It comes in a compact storage box, so it would be a great game to take along with you when you travel for family vacations or take it with you when you go camping this summer. Light-weight, compact and everything you need to play are within the box.
