Hot Dots Jr. Getting Ready For School Learning Set

Hot Dots Jr by Educational InsightsToday I would like to introduce you to the company called Educational Insights based out of Southern California. Educational Insights is the manufacturer of playful products with serious educational value, including subject-specific classroom products, teacher resources, educational toys, and games. Their products are designed by seasoned educators & parents who know that children love to learn when you make that learning experience fun!

When you visit the Educational Insights online web site you will find that it’s really easy to navigate. The web site has three tabbed categories which are the sections for Parents, Teachers and Classroom Jeopardy. Since I am a mother and grandmother…I could spend hours just browsing around their parent’s section of the web site.

My Review: Today I am reviewing the Hot Dots Jr. “Getting Ready For School” set from Educational Insights. This set includes “Ace” the talking, teaching dog along with 80 two-sided lesson cards and a step by step instructional guide. It is geared towards children ages 3-6, grades pre-K through grade 1. You will need two AAA batteries for the “Ace” dog pen. The set includes 5 sets of lesson cards: Set One is on shapes, Set Two is Color & Patterns, Set Three is Let’s Learn Numbers, Set Four is Learning the Alphabet and Set Five is Uppercase and Lowercase Letters.

We decided to start out with the set FIVE lesson cards which help children to learn Uppercase & Lowercase Letters. Once we had it all ready to go we sat down with 3 children in our family and demonstrated to them on how to use the Hot Dots Jr. and you will see in the video below me showing the kids how it is done. (sorry I am not good at doing videos or being in one! LOL)

After the instructional period the 3 kids got busy using the set. It was really fun to watch them giggle and laugh every time “Ace” the talking dog talked to them. To use the set your child simply looks at the lesson card and then uses the “Ace” pen to select his/her answer and he “Ace” lights up green when they select the correct answer and lights up red when they select the incorrect answer. I love how clearly “Ace” talks to them…in other words, you can clearly make out what he is saying and he says a lot of different things…like “correct”, “terrific”, etc.

The kids sat and played with this set for over 2 hours and they absolutely loved it! I love that they are learning important things that they need to know before starting school and they have fun while doing it. I also appreciate that they are learning as they go and when they select an incorrect answer…they can try again without feeling pressured to get it right the first time. This is the second time I am reviewing a Hot Dots Jr. set and we absolutely love them…matter of fact, these are some of our favorite products from Educational Insights and we highly recommend them to you.

KaBAM! Word Card Game by Educational Insights

KaBam Game from Educational InsightsToday I would like to introduce you to the company called Educational Insights based out of Southern California.

Our Review: We received the KaBAM! word card game from the great folks over at Educational Insights to review for all of you. This game is geared towards people ages 7 & up and you need 2 to 4 players. In my opinion this is a combination word game and card game all rolled up into one great game. It retails for $12.99 and you can purchase it directly from Educational Insights.

Here is how you play it: Two plays or teams draw 1 card each & place them next to each other, face up. Players race to be the first one to shout out a word using both letter combinations on the cards and you have to add at least one additional letter to the word you are forming. The first player or team to correctly shout out a word using those letters (in the combination that is displayed) will win both cards. At the end of the game…the team or person with the most cards (points) wins the game. There are 2 KaBAM! cards in the deck and when player turns over a KaBAM! card, a KaBAM! round begins. Each player or team turns over 1 additional card for a total of 4 cards displayed (including the KaBAM! card). The first player to make a word using ALL of the letter combinations will win all 4 cards!

Our Thoughts: My hubby had our 10 year old nephew over on Wednesday afternoon and he sat down to play the game with him. (I helped C in the game since we had an odd number of players). I found it really interesting the amount of different words one person can come up with using the various letter combinations and I loved how fast paced the game was…it moved along pretty quickly. All of the cards come packaged in a reusable tin container so it would be fantastic to take on road trips & vacations to keep the kids busy. We all had a lot of fun playing the game…so much so that after C went home, hubby asked me to play it with him so I did!

We really enjoyed this game and look forward to playing it with all of the kids in our family and highly recommend it to you. It is a great game that encourages team play, correct spelling and imaginative thinking which are all great qualities in a good word game!

You can purchase the Educational Insights KaBAM! directly from Amazon for a great price!
