Home Decorating Tip – Use Alternative Items for Curtain Tie-Backs

Home Decorating Tip – Use Alternative Items for Curtain Tie-Backs

Home Decorating Tip - Use Alternative Items for Curtain Tie-BacksI decorate my home in a coastal and beach style. While I love this particular decorating style, it can be quite pricey to decorate this way. It’s especially true when you live in the middle of Amish Country, Pennsylvania where country decor is all of the rage.

When I shop…I’m always on the lookout for bargain basement deals and I look for ways to use items in unconventional ways. Quality-made items at prices that I can afford…are at the top of my list.

For the past few months I wanted to update the curtain tie-backs in our dining room and give them some pizzazz. I wanted them to reflect my coastal decorating style and I wanted them to be affordable. Browsing around online I found a lot of nice options, but all of them were expensive and out of the price range that I was willing to pay.

Beach and Coastal Christmas Ornaments

At my local craft supply store (AC Moore’s) I stumbled upon a final-price clearance sale on some Christmas and holiday items from last year’s stock. The majority of those items were definitely Christmas theme’d, but they did have some items in a beach & coastal theme that I quickly snagged up. (I also snagged up those beautiful glass seashell holiday ornaments too. They’re for my Christmas tree).

Check out these driftwood inspired seashell and starfish ornaments that I bought that are accented with jute roping. Aren’t they pretty? Each one was regularly priced at $12.99 each. Final clearance price was $1.00 each. Four of them (if they would of had more, I would of gotten them) quickly made their way into my shopping basket.

Beach and Coastal Theme Curtain Tie-Backs

Once I got home I removed their price tag-stickers and quickly added them onto my curtains as new tie-backs. The jute roping worked perfectly as it was looped and I was able to easily slide them onto my curtains and into place. Originally I had the matching “boring brown” tie-backs that came with the curtains which was DRAB looking. These new ornament tie-backs really added the pizzazz that I was looking for! Can you believe it? I paid $1.00 for each tie-back and they look fabulous!

When it comes to curtain tie-backs I highly recommend that you think outside of the box! You can use holiday ornaments, brooches/pins, jeweled pony tail holders, beaded & jeweled stretch bracelets, fancy or plain napkin rings, shower curtain rings and all kinds of different things for curtain tie-backs! Plus, if you’re into DIY and crafty…make your own and save big-time!

Fun Frugal Finds – New Bathroom Rugs!

Fun Frugal Finds – New Bathroom Rugs!

Frugal Finds and Hot DealsI’m a bargain shopper and I’m not afraid to admit that. I’m always hunting down deals and bargains for the things that I need and/or want. I rarely pay full-price for anything and will often times do without, until I find it at a price that I’m willing to pay.

With all of that said…I needed some new bathroom rugs for our master bathroom and I’ve been hunting for the perfect set for the past 6 months. Sure, I’ve found a few sets that I liked, but I wasn’t willing to pay $45 or more to get them. Nope, I’m too frugal for that.

As a neat and clean freak, I won’t buy bathroom rugs with a foam backing. Why you might ask? Well, I do a lot of washing and foam-backed bathroom rugs always fall apart on me within 8 to 10 weeks. That foam cracks, peels and falls apart in my washing machine…clogging it up and looking nasty.

Coastal Stripe Cotton Bath Rugs

So, I always look for 100% cotton bathroom rugs with no foam backing. I like them to be thick, so they’re absorbent. I want the edges of them to be completely finished off and please…don’t give me any of that nasty fringe stuff either. I need them to hold up to being machine washed (gentle cycle) once every 3-4 weeks and then line-dried.

Anyway, I was browsing around online and found a clearance sale on bathroom rugs. They were regularly priced at $26.99 each. They were on clearance for $7.99 each. I then used a 25% off online coupon to bring them down to a little over $5.00 each and they took my coupon for $1.99 shipping too! So, my bargain shopping netted me 2 brand new cotton bath rugs for less than $15.00 shipped straight to my home and I love them!!!

Are you picky about the bathroom rugs that you buy? Am I the only one who hates foam-backed rugs & mats? Have you found any good bargains or deals lately?
