6 Tips on How to Save Money on Meat and Fish at the Grocery Store

6 Tips on How to Save Money on Meat and Fish at the Grocery StoreAre you looking for ways to save money on meat and fish while shopping at the grocery store? If so, I wanted to share a few of my tips on how I typically get 30% to 70% off. Sometimes I even get FREE meat if I’m redeeming my store’s club points. However, the point of this post is how I get deep discounts which spreads my grocery budget even more!

1. Find out when your store does their weekly markdowns on their meat and fish. Most stores have a set day that they mark down the prices on packages that are getting close to their sell by dates.

2. Check out the manager’s specials for that particular week. You can often find at least 30% off on just the manager’s specials compared to regular prices.

3. Ask at the meat counter if they have any irregular cuts of meat in the back that they’re going to sell at a discount? Often times they have them in the back and you have to ask for them. I can save 30-60% off irregular cuts of roasts, steaks, etc.

4. Look for BOGO deals. At our local grocery store they often do BOGO deals on ground beef, ground turkey, chicken thighs and legs, and thin cut pork chops. They’ll offer them at buy 2 packages get 1 package for free.

5. Buy those holiday specials in multiples! Around Thanksgiving turkey will go on sale at the store. Pick up an extra turkey or two to freeze for later use. At Christmas time and the Easter holiday we often find ham on sale. Pick up extra ham if your store is running a holiday special.

6. Use discounts when applicable to stack on top! If your store has a club card that you earn points for every purchase make sure you use it. If they offer in-store or online coupons…use them! If you’re a senior and shop on a certain day of the week they will often give a senior’s discount. Find out what discounts are offered and use what you can!

6 Tips on How to Save Money on Meat and Fish at the Grocery Store

On a recent trip to the grocery store I went on a day that I know they do their meat & fish markdowns. At this particular store it’s on a Friday, so I try to hit it early in the morning. All of the markdowns are on irregular cuts or on items close to their sell-by dates. I got 18 breakfast sausage links in one package for $3.49. I then spotted the markdown special on Wild Caught Flounder Filets. These were large fish fillets that I snagged a package of 4 for $7.23. That’s dinner for 2 people for 2 nights! What a deal.

6 Money-Saving Tips for Single Moms

6 Money-Saving Tips for Single Moms

6 Money-Saving Tips for Single MomsAre you a single mom trying to make ends meet? Feeling over-whelmed with your expenses? It can be hard raising children especially when you’re struggling to pay the bills. Here are 6 Money-Savngs Tips for Single Moms that can help.

1. Re-evaluate your current income and expenses and work up a brand new budget that will keep you living within your financial means. If possible, work into your budget a saving’s plan where you are tucking away money for your future. Even if it’s only $25 a month, it will add up over time.

2. Come up with a list on how you can cut down your expenses and save money. This list can include things like using coupons when you grocery shop, taking advantage of buy 1 get 1 free deals, exchanging daycare with other single parents, carpooling back & forth to work, shopping at consignment stores, shopping at discount bargain stores, yard sales, etc.

3. Check to see what kind of local, state and federal assistance programs that you may or may not qualify for. You may be able to get help with housing expenses, groceries, medical & dental care, daycare, etc. There are a LOT of programs out there, so don’t be afraid to ask for help and to apply. Don’t just assume that you don’t qualify!

4. Shop around for the right credit cards and bank accounts to suit your own needs. If you currently have a bank account at the same bank as an ex-spouse, now is the time to change financial institutions. Look for banks that require low minimums, no fees for checking, no fees for savings and so forth. To cut down on time & expenses, use a bank that offers free bill-paying online. Look for credit cards that have low interest fees and decent “fine terms” that you can live with.

5. If you have debt, try to pay it off quickly. If you can’t, draft up a debt repayment plan and try to get it paid off as soon as possible! Once you’re out from under it, stay out of debt! There is nothing worse than struggling to make ends meet with a lot of debt on your shoulders.

6. Be honest with your children about your current financial situation (if they’re old enough) and ask them to help where and when they can. Kids are smart and they don’t like it when parent’s hide the truth from them. Honesty is always the best policy.
