Would You Pay Extra for Premium Hospital Food and Meals?

Would You Pay Extra for Premium Hospital Food and Meals?

Would You Pay Extra for Premium Hospital Food and Meals?Hospitals…they’re notoriously known for having terrible food options for their patients. Typically the food is bland, basic and offers nothing for your tastebuds to enjoy. It’s been like that for decades, although it has gotten a little better the past few years. While hospitals are not gourmet restaraunts…they do need to improve on their menu options for patients. They can and should do better!

One thing that I think they should consider is…premium menu options. While your food is covered under your insurance plan while you’re there…I think they should offer some gourmet menu options! I know as a frequent patient that I would certainly pay for better menu options while I’m in there.

The one hospital that I use a lot only offers 3 different flavors of jello…of course the 3 ickiest flavors. They only offer chocolate or vanilla ice cream and when it comes to fresh fruit…oranges, apples and bananas. While these are okay choices…I think if patients were given a choice that some would pay extra to have premium menu offerings. I know that I would. Eating the bland stuff for 1-3 days is one thing…but eating it for 2-3 weeks is another!

I’m not asking them to provide gourmet steaks, lobster tails, crab legs and stuff like that…but I’m asking them to give patients more options…even if we have to pay for them!

Salted Margarita Popcorn RecipeEnjoy caramel popcorn? Looking for a new twist on the traditional caramel flavor? If so, check out this Salted Margarita Popcorn Recipe from our friends over at Popcorn.org. This light caramel popcorn is accented with zesty lime, tequila, brown sugar and sea salt for a fun snack that’s based on a classic summer cocktail. It will make approximately 8 servings.

Salted Margarita Popcorn Recipe

8 cups popcorn
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup liquid honey
2 tablespoons freshly grated lime zest
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1/4 cup tequila
2 teaspoons sea salt, divided
3/4 teaspoon baking soda

Line large baking sheet with parchment paper. Spray large bowl with nonstick cooking spray.

Transfer popcorn to prepared bowl.

In heavy-bottomed medium saucepan set over medium heat, stir together brown sugar, butter, liquid honey, lime juice, tequila and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, and cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until sugar mixture is golden brown and has reached the hard-ball stage. To test, add a few drops of sugar syrup to a glass of ice-cold water; if the sugar syrup solidifies, the mixture is ready.

Stir in baking soda. (The caramel may foam.) Working quickly and carefully, pour caramel over popcorn, stirring to evenly coat.

Arrange popcorn mixture on prepared baking sheet, spreading into an even layer. Sprinkle with lime zest and remaining salt. Let set until firm.
