Here are a few ideas to help you get moving in the summer heat

Easy Exercises for the Summer Heat

1) Resistance Bands – These are my go to when I just cannot get in a workout on my machines and when I travel. They stay in my laptop bag so when I go and visit friends or take a trip, I have removed the excuse. They come in many different styles. These have handles with are great to slip your foot into and grab on to as well. You can find other styles such as the thicker bands, both in a continuous circle or open. They help to strengthen muscles and burn fat.

There are loads of free exercise routines that you can find on the internet. Plus these are great for any age and fitness level. And you can do them inside! Love them!

2) Swimming – Water aerobics and swimming are fantastic exercises for any age and any fitness level. Classes are usually found at a gym or community center and you cannot beat the workout that you get with simple movements in water. Again, there are loads of great resources if you have a pool you can use and do not want to take a class. Make up your own routine and watch the pounds drop and feel your muscles tighten.

3) Workout DVD’s – These dang fitness instructors are taking away our excuses with DVD’s in any type of exercise genre you can imagine. I love the walking and stretching ones the most but also enjoy some of the Pilates, yoga and even barre ones. Boxing is my next one! Perfect for anytime and any where. I usually take a dvd with me when I travel too.

4) Streaming Videos – What I said about these dang fitness instructors above goes double for this one. You can search for videos and stream them onto your tablet and laptop to work out anytime and anywhere. Perfect for traveling and when it is too hot to get outside.

5) Make Your Own Combo – Combine any of these and some of your own moves to keep working it. Some moms use their kids as weights and incorporate them into their routines. Make it fun and you will do it every day.

Outdoor Exercise Tips for Cold and Wet Weather

rain clouds and stormy sky over a lake after the rain
Just because the seasons change doesn’t mean that many of us do not enjoy to exercise outdoors still. Runners, walkers and even some bike riders don’t let a little wet weather stop them from enjoying the activities they love. All that is needed is a bit of change in clothing and some tips for staying safe in inclement weather. Here are somethings to think about.

Outdoor Exercise Tips for Cold, Wet Weather

* Always do your warmups with light stretching before heading outdoors. In colder weather, you may not recognize pulls and strained muscles right away

* Make sure to cool down when you are finished so your body can adjust to temperature changes more easily.

* Layer your clothing so you can remove a jacket or coverup should you get too hot

* Choose clothing that is made to wick away moisture. You may not realize that you are sweating in colder weather, but you still do

* Make sure to hydrate as normal before heading out and while exercising. Again, you may not feel like you are perspiring, but you are.

* Keep aware of your surroundings and remember that vehicles may not see you as well in wet weather. Stay off roadways

* Wear reflective tape on your clothing or bright outerwear so others can see you a bit more easily

* Make sure to wear the proper footwear that has a bottom for wet conditions.

Keeping yourself safe and healthy is the number one priority when it comes to exercise. Choosing to work out in the cold and wet means that you need to take a bit for can. But the benefits are worth it! Enjoy!
