On Saturday, August 8th we will be taking our 2 grandchildren to Jurassic Quest to have some fun. Look for our blog post a few days later along with photographs about our day. In the meantime, to get the kids even more excited about Jurassic Quest…we sat down and painted a few dinosaur themed clam shells. We’ll be leaving them at the show for other’s to find!
Supplies Needed: Large Clam Seashells, Acrylic Paint Markers, Acrylic Craft Paint, Pencil, Clear Mod Podge Sealer, Paint Brush.
Base coat the clam shell with 1-2 coats of acrylic craft paint. Let dry for 1 hour. Use a pencil to lightly sketch a simple dinosaur shape onto the seashell. The head is basically an enlongated oval shape and then you just add 2 curved lines for the body. Keep it simple since you’re doing this project with kids.
To color-in the dinosaurs we used BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers. They have dual-ended tips, no priming is needed, no drippy messes, clogged tips and no foul paint odors. Plus, they dry quickly. Use the medium-tip to color-in the large areas and the fine-tip to color-in the smaller areas and to write any wordage onto the shell. Takes 15-20 minutes (at most) for the paint to dry.
Finishing up…brush on a light coat of Clear Mod Podge Sealer. This will protect the painted design from chips, color fading, etc. As the Mod Podge dries…it dries clearly. We used one with a glossy finish which gave the seashells a nice shine!
Kids love dinosaurs and these seashells are really easy-to-make! If you don’t have access to shells…you can paint the design onto smooth river stones or small tiles.
We painted 8 of them and will be “hiding them” at the Jurassic Quest show for other’s to find! We used a black Sharpie Marker to write on the back of each shell the following: Keep or Rehide. Earlier this month I had to the opportunity to see Pentatonix in concert at the Giant Center in Hershey Pennsylvania. I was first introduced to the group when they won the 3rd season of NBC’s hit TV talent show the Singoff. Their an American a cappella group from the great state of Texas.
I was hoping to see the group in concert last year but due to the Pandemic all shows in the northeast were cancelled. As soon as I found out they would be appearing locally, I was excited to get tickets into my hands. This is one group that is totally worth your time and money to go see.
Those of you who aren’t familiar with Pentatonix you can learn more about the group HERE. The concert that I went to featured all of their renditions of popular Christmas and holiday songs. From start to finish they had the audience singing along with them. A very entertaining show that put you into the holiday spirit.
Hopefully Pentatonix will visit the central Pennsylvania area again next year and if they do, I’ll be there! Here are two photographs that I took at the concert. If you ever get the chance to go see them, I highly recommend that you do!
