Family Game Night: Sophie’s Seashell Scramble

Sophie's Seashell Scramble by Educational InsightsFor the past 7 years I’ve been buying and/or reviewing toys and games from the company called Educational Insights. If you’re unfamiliar with this company, They’re the manufacturer of playful products with serious educational value, including subject-specific classroom products, teacher resources, educational toys, and games. Their products are designed by seasoned educators and parents who know that children love to learn when you make that learning experience fun!

We get together with our granddaughter several times a month for play dates, movie dates and game night. Just last weekend she spent the night with us and I’m super excited to feature that game today as part of our Annual Holiday Gift Guide.

Game Name: Sophie’s Seashell Scramble
By: Educational Insights
Ages: 3 and up
Players: 2-4

Sophie the Otter is searching for snacks in the sea. Help her find the shells she seeks by spinning the spinner and using the Sophie Squeezer to pick up a shell with the matching pattern. But look out ~ there’s something fishy in these waters! You could spin “steal a shell” or play “press your luck” with Otto the Octopus! Spin Otto or your selected shell pattern and win an extra shell, but spin anything else and this meanie mollusk will throw your shell back into the sea! Fill your Shell Snack Mat with matching shells first, and you win!

Sophie's Seashell Scramble Game from Educational Insights

This educational game will help teach children pattern matching, hand-to-eye coordination, fine motor skills and the game play itself helps to develop strategic thinking skills and social skills.

When the Princess was here last weekend we sat down to play this game. It took us less than 5 minutes to set the game up and to read over the basic instructions on how to play it. We then got busy playing it and taking turns. One of the things I love about this game is that it doesn’t take HOURS to play. Second, you all know that I love anything & everything to do with the beach, so this game was definitely up my alley. Third, it’s compact and light-weight…so it’s a great game to take with you when you travel or if the kids are going to grandma’s house for a sleepover. A very simple game that provides a lot of fun and every time you play it…it’s different! At the age of 7 1/2 years old, the Princess has already fallen in-love with this game and we’ve played three times already. What a great game to purchase for the kids on your holiday gift-giving list this year!

Looking for something fun for the little ones to do this summer? Got preschool-aged kids at home? If so, I’ve got a great new toy to introduce you to today that is really going to rock their world!

Codeapillar Toy by Fisher-Price

The Code-a-pillar is an educational toy made by Fisher-Price. It’s made for preschool-aged children between the ages of 3-6 years of age. I have a grandson who is almost 1 year old and a granddaughter who is 7 years old. Both have fallen in-love with this toy. Just to note…I sit with my 1 year old so he is NOT left unattended with this toy.

This particular toy inspires little learners to be big thinkers! It helps to develop problem-solving skills, planning & sequencing and helps to inspire critical thinking. The kids love the motorized action which keeps them entertained for hours at a time!

Codeapillar Toy by Fisher-Price

The Fisher-Price Code-a-pillar needs a smooth surface to run on. My grandchildren like to run him across my tiled kitchen floor or we take it outside and they play with it on our front porch.  It comes with 4 included AA batteries which makes it run.

Every time kids change & rearrange his pieces, the Code-a-pillar takes a different path. Every time with cool sounds & lights wherever he goes! It includes 1 sound piece, 3 straight pieces, 2 right pieces and 2 left turn pieces to send the learning fun in endless directions.

Let the kids sit down and mix up all of the pieces. Once they’ve been mixed up, let them put them back together again to send the Code-a-pillar into a different direction. He also comes with a “start” and a “finish” cardboard target that you place on the floor or smooth surface.  Let the kids arrange his pieces and then see if the Code-a-pillar can make it from your start target to the finish target. If not, let them rearrange his pieces again until he completes the targeted run from start to finish.

Kids can get really creative with this thing and set up obstacle courses for the Code-a-pillar to go through or obstacles for him to go around. For example: set up some books, chairs, other toys, etc. and watch him go around those objects, under those objects or run into them. Don’t worry though, he’s extremely well-made and built to do this sort of thing!

If you’re looking for more educational learning fun, you can download the Code-a-pillar app that is available in the App Store and on Google Play. Looking to buy? Head to your local Best Buy store or shop at BestBuy.com to pick it up for your little one today!

As a mother and grandmother, I think the Code-a-pillar is a great educational toy for the kids! What a great way to keep them busy this summer (learning too!) or pick it up now for upcoming birthdays and for holiday gift-giving.
