Craft Project – How to Make a Little Girl’s Barrette and Hair Clip Holder

Craft Project - How to Make a Little Girl's Barrette and Hair Clip Holder

Princess Gia loves to wear various barrettes, hair clips and pony tail holders in her hair, but storing and organizing them all has become a real pain in the butt. Last weekend I decided to do something about that and decided to hit my craft room for some inspiration.

I am really big on turning Trash into Treasure and I rescued 3 recently emptied plastic containers from our family’s trash. These containers/canisters held pretzel rods, popcorn and a snack mix, and all were about the same size! I then washed them and removed all of their labels.

I then took them into my craft room and got together some scrapbooking papers, rick rack trim, ruler, scissors and my liquid glue pen.

I measured around the circumference of each container and measured the height. I then cut that size from various sheets of scrapbooking paper. I used my liquid glue pen to attach the paper onto my plastic containers. It only took about 10 minutes to dry.

While it was drying, I cut strips from scrapbooking paper to make a paper band to wrap around the center of each container. I used my liquid glue pen to glue them onto each container. To make them even more prettier, I used the liquid glue pen to glue rick rack trim around the long edges of that center band. (On this one the center band is made from pink printed scrapbooking paper and my rick rack trim is in yellow).

To finish it up, I traced around the circumference of each lid onto matching scrapbook paper. When I cut the circles out, I cut them out 1/8″ smaller than what I needed. I did that so that the black on each lid would serve as a frame for the paper circle. I used the liquid glue pen and simply glued the circle onto the top of each lid.

If you wanted to make them even prettier, you could glue beads, rhinestones, lace, satin ribbon bows and other things onto them. Myself, I like them just like this!

Princess Gia now has 3 of these pretty decorated containers sitting on her dresser top in her bedroom and they hold all of her smaller hair accessories. Each container takes less than 30 minutes to make and if you have older children, they surely could make a few of these all on their own.  Happy Crafting!

The Hot New Hobby of Miniature Gardening

As many of you know, I absolutely love to craft and sew, and have been doing both since I was a small child. One of the things I have always wanted to learn about is how to do needle felting. In the past when I looked for info on the craft, it intimidated me and I moved on. Well, I am ready to give it another go in the next few weeks thanks to a new book hitting the market called “The Complete Photo Guide to Felting” by Ruth Lane.

This large book will teach you all you need to know about wet felting, needle felting and nuno felting. It is the essential reference for novice & expert fiber artists. It is packed with hundreds of felting tips and ideas with detailed step-by-stepy instructions for all techniques. The best thing about this book is that it contains over 800 large format color photos to help you really learn and understand the craft!

My Thoughts: I have went through this book cover-to-cover twice and I am still learning more! Out of the 3 different types of felting that this book teaches, I am most excited to try my hand at needle felting. The Complete Photo Guide to Felting Book

This book has tons and tons of color photographs which really explains the techniques and information to you nicely. This book is like having your own needle felter in your home who is sitting beside you & teaching you the craft. A lot of the step-by-step craft patterns are absolutely gorgeous and I want to try making a needle felted teddy bear first!

There are 240 large sized pages in this book and there is definitely a project for everyone within the book’s pages! Once we get moved into our new home & get my craft room set up again, I am going to sit down and try my hand at needle felting. Have any of you every tried it?
