Upcycled Before and After Photos of New Coastal End Table

Upcycled Before and After Photos of New Coastal End Table

Upcycled Coastal End Table Woodworking Project - AFTEROne of our friends had a sturdy old wooden end table that they no longer wanted and gave it to me. I enjoy refurbishing wood furniture and I knew I could make this old table work within my coastal beach decor. It’s a solid piece and they sure don’t make them like that anymore.

The end table needed no repairs. I simply used our palm sander and sanded off all of the nicks, scratches, varnish, and wood stain. It took me about an hour to get it completely sanded down and looking decent again.

I decided to paint it in a two-tone color scheme of white and coastal gray. The majority of the table is white with just 4 gray panels. I did use 2 coats of paint allowing for 3 hours of drying time between the coats. You always want to make sure that the paint is completely dry (not sticky or tacky) before applying the next coat.

Upcycled Coastal End Table Woodworking Project - BEFORE

While the paint was drying I cut 4 little felt pads from a furniture felt pad sheet that I had purchased and used E6000 Adhesive to apply them onto the bottom of each leg. We have hardwood floors and I don’t want any scratches on our new flooring. I left those dry for several hours.

After all of the paint was done drying and curing…I did add a clear coat to help protect the painted finish from nicks and scratches. I used just a light coat and didn’t go too heavy with it. I used one that gives you a “matte finish” as I didn’t want a high glossy shine. Overall, I think it turned out beautiful. Plain but that’s the way I like it! I’m going to put it in the family room with my one Seashorse table lamp sitting on the top.

Painted Bumble Bee Seashell Garden Yard Art

Painted Bumble Bee Seashell Garden Yard Art

I love adding coastal and beach decor to my outside garden areas, front porch, back deck, and along pathways on our property. I like things to be colorful but yet simple in their appearance. This painted Bumble Bee Seashell Garden Yard Art was the perfect new addition.

If you don’t have an outside area to display it in…it will look equally as cute displayed on a desk (think paper weight), tabletop, in a tiered tray centerpiece, on a bookshelf, etc. It’s easy to make and you’ll only need a few supplies to make one. Large 4″ to 5″ wide Clam Shell
2″ wide Scallop Shell
Acrylic Paints – Hunter Green, Yellow, Black, and White
Acrylic Paint Pens – Bright Yellow and Orange
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Gorilla Glue
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer – Glossy Finish
Round Wooden Toothpick

Base coat the large clam shell with 2 coats of hunter green colored paint, allowing for 20 minutes of drying time between coats.

Paint the scallop shell with 2-3 coats of yellow acrylic craft paint, allowing for 20 minutes of drying time between coats. Once dry, use black paint to add the “arc shaped” head and 3 black “curved” stripes. Once dry you’ll want to add the 2 white eyes. Dip the end of a wooden toothpick into white paint. Dot on the white antannae as shown in the photo. Once the white of the eyes is dry…flip that toothpick over and dip it into black paint. Dot on the black pupils. Let everything dry.

Use Gorilla Glue (not hot glue) and adhere the painted scallop shell onto the clam shell. While it is drying, use a yellow acrylic paint pen to write the words BEE HAPPY. Use yellow and orange paint pens to add the polka dot border around the entire clam shell. Let dry for several hours or until the paint is no longer tacky.

Take seashells outside. Spray 1-2 light coats of Acrylic Spray Sealer on each side of the shell. Let dry for 2-3 hours or until it’s no longer tacky. This will protect the painted finish from chipping, cracking, and the colors from fading. It also makes them safe to display outdoors!
