Our lives are super busy and along with all of the craziness comes stress. During the evening hours (usually while I’m watching TV), I like to sit down with an adult coloring book and relax. There is something very relaxing about coloring a beautiful design in a book…not sure why I find it so relaxing, but millions of other people enjoy this hobby too!

I’ve featured MANY adult coloring books here on The Classy Chics blog over the past year and I have to say, these books are getting better & better. When they first hit the scene many of them featured juvenile-style patterns. Over the course of the year…I’ve seen them really evolve into works of art. I’m really excited to see this industry continue to grow and expand.
When I color in my adult coloring books, I primarily use gel pens with fine tips. I use a lot of glitter gel pens too. From time to time I will use colored pencils when that artistic side strikes me. If you’re new to this hobby, you can use colored pens, gel pens, markers, colored pencils, colored chalks, watercolor paints and all sorts of artist tools.
Once your designs have been completed, you can leave them in your books or remove them. You can turn them into framed pieces of wall art, use them in scrapbook & cardmaking designs, laminate large designs into placemats & small designs into refrigerator magnets, turn them into bookmarks by cutting designs into strips and all kinds of other things! You can really let your creativity run wild! Back in May of 2012 I met a wonderful and talented woman online named Michele McKee-Orsini who is the owner of Michele’s Handcrafted Birdhouses. If you recall, in May of 2012 I had the pleasure of reviewing one of Michele’s handcrafted birdhouses and to this day, it is my favorite birdhouse ever!
Michele has now penned a book called Handmade Birdhouses and Feeders, published by CICO BOOKS. The ISBN: 978-1-908862-63-1. This softcover book contains 35 projects to attract birds into your garden or backyard. There are 144 pages with stunning photography done by Caroline Arber. Even if you are not a crafter or bird watching fanatic like myself, this book would make a great gift for someone who is!
Book Synopsis: This wonderful collection of handmade birdhouses and feeders will add decoration to any outdoor space, as well as attract garden birds. Inside you will find 35 original designs, from functional birdhouses to more decorative ones.

My Thoughts: If you have been reading our blog the past few years you will already know how much I love to be outside and watching the birds! I have several bird baths, bird feeders, bird houses and all kinds of things outside to attract them to my front and back yards. Birds…they are welcomed here!
This book is extremely well-written and perhaps, I will attempt to make my first bird house after I recuperate from surgery. Her instructions (written and diagrams) are easy enough that any beginner crafter or woodworker could easily understand.
Projects include all kinds of different styled bird houses to attract a wide variety of birds! I love that Michele’s designs range from rustic chic to uniquely hand painted ones. Definitely a style for everyone! I love that she even included project instructions on how you can build your own bird feeders!
I think my favorite one out of all of the beautiful ones in her book has got to be the planter bird house on page 75 in her book! Oh my…it’s functional, beautiful and a must-have for me!!!!
I am really impressed with this book and I think you all would be too! You can purchase Handmade Birdhouses and Feeders directly from the publisher and I highly recommend this book! I am giving it a 9.75 out of 10 on my rating scale and only deducted a .25 star because I would love to see a whole LOT more of Michele’s designs! Beautifully written book with gorgeous photography!
