With that said, I’ve never tried my hand at clay making and have been wanting to try it for years! Clay Play! 24 Whimsical Projects by Terry Taylor is a great beginner’s book. Heck, even if you’re not a beginner…you will still enjoy this book.
The beginning of the book has 2 really nice sections: Tools and Supplies, and Basic Techniques. The author does a great job at teaching you all of the basics to help you get started. Once you’re ready…you can move on to trying one of the 24 included projects.
To make the projects you’ll need to buy some Polymer Clay in your desired colors which is readily available in craft supply stores and via Amazon for a great price. You’ll need a few inexpensive tools and you’ll be ready-to-roll. If you’re new to this crafting medium…I suggest purchasing an inexpensive kit from Amazon to save money.
The Princess and I have completed 6 of the designs featured in this book so far! The author does a wonderful job at walking you through each project step-by-step. If you’re new to Polymer clay you’ll want to start out with the easiest projects first. For example…We made one of the snowman ornaments and it took us less than 20 minutes to make and another 30 minutes to bake. We think he turned out adorable and plan on making more!

In the origami world, cats were traditionally under-represented, and the few existing models were rather flat and lifeless. But thanks to modern folding techniques, it’s possible to recapture the true charm of our feline companions. This book for origamists of all skill levels offers 20 original designs that range from a grinning Cheshire cat and a snoozing feline to a walking cat, a seated cat, a Halloween cat, and the smug cat that got the cream, as well as cats on an envelope, a bookmark, a greeting card, and other figures.
