Garlic by Jeny Linford Features 65 Ways to Cook with Garlic

Garlic by Jeny Linford Features 65 Ways to Cook with Garlic

Garlic by Jeny Linford CookbookOur kitchen is definitely a hub of the house and the hub (my husband, Tony) of the house is continually whipping up delicious dishes for us. He has some favorite recipes, but I’m constantly searching for new recipes to incorporate into our family dinner menus. One of his favorite ingredients to cook with is garlic, so I was definitely looking forward to getting my hands on a new cookbook that is all about garlic. Garlic by Jenny Linford, contains a variety of recipes from simple dips and snacks to more complex meals that include meats, fish, pasta and even breads. Jenny Linford is a professional food writer based in London and has written for a variety of well-known publications and has authored fifteen books.

Garlic is a staple in my house and we cook with it quite a bit. I didn’t know this, but garlic has been used to enhance food as far back as when the pyramids at Giza were built. Chefs and home cooks throughout the world use garlic as an essential ingredient in recipes and use it in many different ways. The taste of garlic varies in depth and aroma depending on the way it is cooked and the variety used. The garlic bulbs found in your typical grocery store are actually dried in the sun, though we tend to consider them fresh. Smoked garlic is dried garlic that has been smoked to give it a golden hue and mellow smoky flavor. Wild garlic, or “ramps”, is a seasonal and foraged variety that, unlike common cultivated garlic, it is the leaves that are eaten rather than the bulbs.

This cookbook features so many mouth-watering recipes from the craved-classics like Aioli, Beef Bourguignon and Pasta Primavera to more adventurous recipes like Garlic and Pistachio Muffins, Korean Beef Bulgogi, and a Taiwanese Braised Pork Bao (steamed buns). Some of my favorites in the cookbook are the Hummus, Smoked Garlic Pulled Pork, Chicken with 40 Cloves of Garlic and the Garlic Butter Roast Chicken.

We made the Garlic Butter Roast Chicken for dinner last night and it was amazing. It had a nice balance of lemon and garlic and was a fairly easy recipe to make. The house smelled incredible and we are definitely planning to keep this recipe in the family rotation for sure!

In addition to the recipes in the cookbook, there are also great little sections that provide deeper insight into the various aspects and types of garlic as well as how to grow garlic at home. It’s a very informative, interesting book for all of those cooks out there, regardless of skill level. The recipes span from very simple and straightforward (Bean and Garlic Dip) to a little more intense (Beef Ale Stew with Wild Garlic/Ramps Dumplings). The book also features beautiful photos, which I warn against browsing when you are hungry!

French Country Cooking: Authentic Recipes from Every Region

There’s nothing quite like good French cooking. I was an exchange student when I was a teenager and spent a month in France and even with my particular palate (super picky teen); I still have fond memories of the food there and the meals that
