Wine Tourism: The 5 Best US Wineries to Visit in 2023

Wine Tourism: The 5 Best US Wineries to Visit in 2023

The 5 Best US Wineries to VisitFrom contending with the weather to attracting loyal customers, US wine-makers have always had a lot on their plates. Then the pandemic took over the world, shutting down wine tastings, disrupting supply chains, and making it difficult for wineries to source everything from barrels to Braud grape harvester parts.

If you’re a wine lover who wants to support the industry and ensure you’re able to enjoy many delicious drops in the future, now is the perfect time to visit the nation’s wineries. To help you in this endeavor, we’ve compiled a list of five unique US wineries to add to your 2023 itinerary.

1. Castello di Borghese Vineyard, New York

Castello di Borghese is our favorite Long Island vineyard, but there are plenty of other stunning wineries in the vicinity. So, if you’re planning a trip to New York, we recommend adding a tour of the region’s wineries.

You’ll find Castello di Borghese in Cutchogue, and once there, you can treat yourself to an afternoon of sensorial delights with their award-winning white and red wines, rosés, and delectable dessert wines.

2. Sawtooth Winery, Idaho

Though Idaho isn’t yet a world-famous wine-growing region, there are plenty of astonishing hidden gems in the state. Sawtooth Winery is one of our favorites, occupying a gorgeous expanse of greenery in Snake River Valley.

This is a magical part of America that’s far removed from the usual tourist destinations, so it’s worth taking some time to explore the region.

White wine lovers will adore Sawtooth’s Pinot Gris, while red wine fans will melt over their Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon. Sawtooth also offers a unique Idahoan treat – canned wine! Though it may sound strange, these unique products are an homage to the stunning waterways of the Snake River Valley region and the fly fishers who love to visit them.

3. Folktale Winery, California

Nature lovers will adore Folktale Winery and its sustainable approach to agriculture. The Folktale folk are serious about treating the land with respect, so you can sip their wine with complete peace of mind, knowing you’re in harmony with the environment around you. Just keep in mind that, at the time of writing, they’re not accepting walk-ins, so be sure to book ahead to secure your place in Folktale Winery’s lush wine garden.

4. Castello di Amorosa, California

If sipping wine in a medieval Tuscan castle sounds like your idea of fun, then Castello di Amorosa is for you. With forested hills on one side and vineyards flowing out beneath it, the castle is truly breathtaking. Add to this the fact that Castello di Amorosa’s wine collections regularly win awards, and you have a recipe for perfection.

There are plenty of wine-tasting packages to choose from, and the nearby town of Calistoga also has plenty to offer adventurous travelers. We recommend visiting the region’s hot springs if you want to add even more relaxation to your wine-tasting holiday.

5. Adelaida Vineyards, California

Tucked away in the mountains to the west of Paso Robles, Adelaida Vineyards is perfect for wine lovers who want an escape from city life. This family-owned and operated vineyard offers rustic vibes, with plenty of hand-crafted details and creative touches. To get the best out of your trip to this winery, we recommend making a reservation so you can enjoy a private tour and tasting complete with plenty of insights into wine production.

If wine helps you socialize and unwind from stressful days, why not support the industry that supports you? Start by visiting the US wineries listed above, and be sure to bring a few friends with you on your wine-tasting adventure.
