Two months ago I started using Dawn Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray to clean other things around the house. Well, guess what? Over the next few weeks I’ll show you what I’ve been using it on…besides those dirty dishes! Today, I’m going to tell you how I use it to clean the stove-top, oven door and range hood. You can read my previous post on how I used Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray to Clean the Kitchen Sink.

Dawn Ultra Platinum Powerwash Spray

Let’s start with the oven door. My tempered glass window was super dirty and even though I was using the automatic “clean” setting to clean the oven…the glass window remaind dirty. I sprayed some of the Dawn Platinum Plus Powerwash Dish Spray all over the tempered glass. I left it sit on there for about 20 minutes or so. You could see it working to break down that grease and grime.

Microfiber cleaning cloths can be your best friend when it comes to cleaning your home! I dampened one and got busy wiping up the area that I had sprayed. Oh my gosh…to my pleasant surprise it broke down the grease and grime like it was nothing. I didn’t have to use any scouring pads or sponges. I simply wiped everything up using a wet microfiber cleaning cloth.

Our range is stainless steel and can get icky dirty pretty quickly. I sprayed some of the product directly onto my wet microfiber cleaning cloth and wiped down the entire outside of the range. Again, it removed food debris and grease like it was nothing! I wiped down the sides, the outside of the oven door and even the glass stove-top. I didn’t scrub or scour. Just wiped and everything wiped up clean. I love how sparkly and shiny the stainless steel range looked!

Now to tackle that greasy range hood which can be a real “bear” to clean. I sprayed the product on a clean, wet microfiber cleaning cloth and got busy wiping down the entire range hood. Wow…no scrubbing was needed. It removed every little drop of grease like it was nothing! If your range hood has one of those reusable metal odor filters (like mine) I popped that out. Placed it in my kitchen sink and sprayed with it a little bit of the Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray. It was FILTHY. I left it sit for 15 mininutes and then started rinsing it underneath running water in my sink. The grease and grime just washed away. It was sparkly clean again.

I love having a clean and organized home. I don’t mind cleaning at all…but I’m all about cleaning things up quickly and effeciently. I don’t want to spend all day cleaning one thing!  If you haven’t tried the Dawn Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray to clean other items in your home…give it a try! In a few weeks I’ll be showing you some other things that I’ve been using it on. It’s fantastic and a must-have in my cleaning product arsenal.

How to Clean Out Bird Nesting Boxes and Bird Houses

How to Clean Out Bird Nesting Boxes and Bird Houses

When to Clean Out Bird Nesting Boxes and Bird HousesWe have 4 large bird houses sprinkled around our property. Bird houses and nesting boxes need to be cleaned out twice a year…after and right before the breeding season. I like to do it in early October and again in early March. Cleaning them out invites new birds to come and keeps them germ-free.

The first thing you want to do is remove the bird’s nest. You can ONLY remove empty nests that have no eggs or have been abandon according to Federal and State Laws. Wear a pair of disposable gloves when handling the nests and cleaning the bird houses. You’ll be amazed at how much bird poo is contained in one single nest or house!

In a water bottle with a spray nozzle I add regular tap water along with 4 capfuls of household bleach. Spray the water & bleach mixture inside the bird’s house and all over the outside. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes. You’ll need to rinse out that solution using a garden hose or by spraying it with clean water from another spray bottle. Let air dry naturally.

When to Clean Out Bird Nesting Boxes and Bird Houses

It is recommended that you dispose the bird’s nest in a compost pile, tossed out into the woods, etc. Give it back to nature. It’s illegal for you to KEEP the nest for personal or commerical use. That means no decorating with it, using it for crafts, etc. Again, wear disposable gloves any time you’re handling the nest!

Our photograph shows a large Robin’s nest that I had to clean out of a large bird house once the breeding season concluded. As you can see…the nest is quite large and over-sized. It took up 50% of the available space inside that house and originally housed the momma bird and 4 babies. It was nice to see the babies hatch, grow and fledge. An experience I look forward to every breeding season.
