Carbona Washing Machine Cleaner with Activated Charcoal for a Well-Maintained Washer

Carbona Washing Machine Cleaner with Activated Charcoal for a Well-Maintained Washer

It wasn’t until I got my front-loading high-efficiency (HE) washing machine that I realized how important it is to regularly clean the washer itself. Like many front-loaders, it frequently developed a musty smell. My new machine is a top-loader and doesn’t have that problem, but

Cleaning Tip – Reusable Micro-Fiber Cloth Mop Pads

Cleaning Tip – Reusable Micro-Fiber Cloth Mop Pads

Frugal Tips by Shelly at TwoClassyChicsHow many of you own those handy-dandy Swiffer mops? I know I do! Matter of fact, I own two of them and use them all of the time when cleaning the floors in my home. I love that they’re light-weight, take up very little space and that they’re easy-to-use.

While I love my Swiffer mop, I don’t enjoy running out to the store every 2 weeks to buy those Swiffer mop pad refills. It’s inconvenient, expensive and well, they’re not very eco-friendly at all.

Instead…I purchased a pack of micro-fiber cleaning cloths and use them to clean my floors! They attach right onto the bottom of your Swiffer mop and are 100% reusable! Just toss them into your washing machine and hang them up to air dry. You never want to use fabric softener when laundering them and it’s best to air dry them.

You can use just plain tap water, a store-bought floor cleaner or whip up your own homemade solution to clean-up your floors. In addition, you can use them when “dry dusting” your floors too! The micro-fiber cloths that I purchased fit perfectly onto the bottom of my mop and I use them all of the time!

A few more great uses: Use the Swiffer mop with the micro-fiber cloths to wipe down your outside house siding (great way to remove winter debris), to scrub down the inside of your swimming pool and pool ladder, wash the roof of your car, wash down your outdoor lawn furniture and more! You can use it for more jobs than just cleaning your floors!

You can find some great homemade cleaning solution recipes right here on the blog. If you’re looking for a fabulous outdoor cleaning solution that works great on cleaning up your home’s siding, the outdoor furniture, the kid’s toys, etc. I highly recommend Krud Kutter! We use it all of the time on our outdoor cleaning projects.

DIY Homemade Laundry Fabric Softener Crystals

DIY Homemade Laundry Fabric Softener Crystals

Frugal Tips by Shelly at TwoClassyChicsHow many of you love using those name-brand fabric softener crystals that you toss into the washing machine to make your laundry (clothes) softer? I admit, I used to be a HUGE user of those Purex Fabric Softener Crystals, until I started making my own. Yes, my own!

If you’ve ever bought them, you already know that they can be expensive, especially when they’re not on sale. With that said, I’ve always enjoyed using them because they work and they made my laundry smell good. Well, I now make my own and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Here is how I make my own!

DIY Homemade Laundry Fabric Softener Crystals

DIY Homemade Laundry Fabric Softener Crystals

1 cup of Sea Salt
1 cup of Epsom Salt
Essential Oil

I have an old plastic bowl that I use when mixing together things like this. A bowl that I never use for food storage. In that bowl you’ll want to mix together 1 cup of Sea Salt, 1 cup of Epsom Salt and 15 drops of your favorite Essential Oil. Depending on my mood, I change up the Essential Oil. I will use lemon, orange or lavender Essential Oils…depending on my mood at the time. You’ll want to mix everything up until well-combined.

Storage: I like to store my homemade crystals fabric softener in glass mason jars up on a shelf in my laundry room. To keep your crystals from clumping, always place a lid on top of your mason jar to keep air and moisture out.

To Use: I use a plastic 1 tablespoon coffee scoop. I will add 1 to 3 tablespoons per wash load.

Additional Tips: You can purchase Epsom Salt and Sea Salt at your local Dollar Discount (type) of store. I buy my Essential Oils at my local craft store and I also order them from Amazon online. Next, if you’re using chunky salts to mix up your recipe and want a more “finer” salt…you can toss the salts in your blender. Just blend for 3-5 seconds. You don’t want it to be a fine power…but a “salt-like” consistency. Don’t have glass mason jars? Save your empty & clean spaghetti sauce jars and mayonnaise jars and use them for store. You’ll want to keep this out of the reach of children and pets too!!!

As you can see, it’s really easy to make your own Homemade Laundry Fabric Softener Crystals and it’s certainly a LOT cheaper to make your own than to buy those store-bought versions. As an added bonus, you can use whatever scents/fragrances that you personally like, instead of being limited to what’s on a store’s shelf. Yay!!!
