Over the years I’ve told you all how much I enjoy cleaning my home. That’s right, I actually enjoy cleaning my home! I don’t mind loading my dishwasher, doing the laundry, dusting, cleaning the bathrooms, running the vacuum and all of the things that have to be done. Except for…mopping the floors!

Two of our bathrooms have tiled floors, our dining room has hardwood and our kitchen floor is made of stone. That doesn’t include our entryway and one hallway that has tile too! It used to take me at least 1 hour to clean all of the different floors and I had to use different mops to get it all done.

As soon as my new mop arrived…I gave it a try. I first used it across my tiled flooring, then my hardwoods and then my stone. It did extremely well on all 3 surfaces! I was really impressed at how easy I was able to get underneath my cabinet edges, underneath my table and chairs, underneath appliances, around the toilet & sinks, etc.
One of the things I really love is that it’s self-wringing…so my hands never touched dirty water or the dirty mop head! You can use the mop wet with your favorite floor cleaner or use it to dry mop when you just need to get up the dust. When using it for dry-mopping, I was really impressed at how much dust, hair and fuzz balls it collected. Wow, I didn’t realize how dirty my floor was!
After doing my floors I toss the mop head into my washing machine (on the low water level) all by itself. You can use your favorite laundry detergent and/or bleach when laundering it. You can toss it into the dryer or air-dry. I perfect to hang mine up to air dry. Another important feature is that I love the LONG HANDLE! I don’t have to stoop or bend my back while mopping the floors!

Over the past few months I’ve been sharing with all of you some of my favorite homemade and DIY cleaning recipes. The recipes that I’ve been sharing with you are ones that I personally use in and around my home. I’m pretty happy that I’ve made the commitment to help cut down the harsh chemicals coming into my home and so far, so good!
A few months ago I was looking online for a good homemade laundry detergent powder recipe and tried out 4 different versions that I had found. Out of the four, there was only one that I liked and it’s the only one that I’m still using today. I found the recipe along with the instructions on how to make it over on The Easy Homestead blog. Jen keeps her’s stored in a container she got at a local dollar-type of store. I mix mine up in a large container and then pour it into mason jars. I keep all of my jars up on a shelf in my laundry room and since I don’t have small kids & pets running around 24/7, that storage method works for me.
Her recipe calls for 3 ingredients and sometimes I add a little fragrance to mine when I’m mixing it up. How do I do that? I place some scented natural bath salts into my blender, grind them up and then mix a few tablespoons of those in with my laundry detergent powder. My BFF is using this same recipe and she just adds 2-3 drops of her favorite essential oil into the washer as the water is filling up, before she puts in her clothes. For those of you who like scented laundry detergent, you can try our two methods.
Like I said, I experimented with four different recipes that I found online and so far…the ONLY one that I like and that I’m still currently using is the recipe that is found on The Easy Homestead blog.
