My life changed forever in the Spring of 1999.
On a beautiful clear, hot, sunny day, my life and my families lives were changed by another person’s action in ways we had no way of knowing. Out for a drive to get a simple haircut, my family was hit head on by another car on the highway. That act started a new chapter in my life as a caregiver to another person as my husband was critically injured.
After nine weeks in intensive care and a step down unit, he was sent to a rehab hospital where conditions were deplorable. He remained there for one week, long enough to learn to transfer himself from a wheelchair to the bed and into the bathroom for personal care. As soon as I was able to make arrangements for a hospital bed in my home, we brought him home to heal. That is when I knew my life would be forever different.
As a mother to a three-year-old child, working full-time and now giving care for a loved one at home, I had my work cut out for me. I had no clue what I was doing… I just knew I had to care for my husband and child. I turned to friends and a few family members that lived near to come and keep my husband company when I was at work, but all of his personal care needs was on me.
He was not strong enough to get out of the hospital bed on a daily basis so I learned to care for not only his medical and therapy needs, but also bathing and other health care needs. Ever wash someone’s hair in bed? Oh, it is tough!
I thought I was a strong person before. I quickly realized how strong one needs to be to care for another on a long-term basis, both physically and mentally.
Doctor appointments were tricky with transporting my hubby. I learned how to change bandages and wound care, how to sanitize and clean personal care items and more. I looked to products I knew and trusted to help me make sure his bed, trays and personal items were spotlessly clean and sanitized for a germ free environment. Products and brands like Clorox were a staple in my home.

I am still a caregiver for my husband in some ways, but he is able to do almost everything on his own now. I am sure that I am not the only one that does not like mopping floors. It is a chore that is a back breaker, literally, so I am always looking for an easy to use product that will make my life simpler and protect my aching back. Hauling mop buckets around is just not for me any more! Thankfully, help is here with a new product I was able to review from O-Cedar.
The newly updated and improved O-Cedar ProMist Microfiber Spray Mop is an easy to use mop available at Wal-Mart, Target and Amazon. The ProMist uses two types of reusable microfiber pads: a durable pad which can be washed up to 100 times and a semi-disposable pad that can be washed or tossed—great for messy spills! The mop has a refillable bottle that allows you the choice to use your favorite cleaning solution or water only, making it safer for kids and pet owners.
This unit is simple to use and I love the fact that no mop bucket is needed! To use this, simply remove the little tank that is connected to the stick and fill it with hot water. Then add 2 teaspoons of your favorite cleaning solution, mix it up a few times and reattach to the stick. It clicks right in. There is a squirt handle on the stick that you can depress to apply as much solution to your floor as needed. So a few sprays on the floor and you are mopping! Sweet! The reusable microfiber pad is attached with velcro so it can be removed in a flash for washing and poof, my floors were done. I did not get the semi-disposible pad with my mop, but they do offer both of the refills on Amazon and wherever the mop is sold. You can use the refill finder on the O-Cedar website too.
I really loved the moveable head on this mop. It made getting behind the toilet and into corners pretty easy. Plus the pad was slightly larger than the head so you have cleaning area up against walls and baseboards. The moveable head also made it easy to get underneath things too. Made mopping the floor a fast job! Plus, since the floor was not sopping wet, it dried quickly too!
Clean up is a breeze with this too. I just emptied the tank and rinsed it out, allowing it to dry out before storing it away. I also emptied the spray reservoir on the stick into the sink as it had collected residual liquid, but that was it. And it was comfortable to use, too, with the nice padded grip for your guiding hand. You can even get a bit of scrub going on, when needed.
This mop worked great on my tile floors in the bathrooms and laundry area and I love that is is so easy to use. It is great for quick spills in the kitchen too. I can even use it with just a bit of hot water on my wood floors without worry because it will not make them soaking wet like a regular mop can. Plus I can control how much liquid comes out and the floors dry quickly. I can then follow up with my cleaning spray and wax, as needed. This is going to be a time saver for sure.
For me, this mop is just what I was looking for! I honestly have to say, now I do not dread mopping the floors – as much any way! The O-Cedar ProMist Microfiber Spray Mop took the headache and back ache out my mopping for me.
