Natural Cleansing with the Soapberry Experience Set – Tree to Tub

Natural Cleansing with the Soapberry Experience Set – Tree to Tub

Tree to Tub Soapberry ProductsHave you heard about soapberries, sometimes called soap nuts? They’re a natural cleanser, gentle enough for babies or people with sensitive skin but effective enough for the family laundry. Soapberries are the fruit of a tree (Sapindus mukorossi) native to sub-tropical Asia. They contain a substance called saponin that gives the dried berries their soap-like properties. Saponin is a natural surfactant, meaning it reduces the surface tension of water, creating lather. Soapberries are naturally antibacterial, antifungal, and hypoallergenic. Pretty cool, right?

For my review, Tree to Tub sent me their Soapberry Experience Set, which includes a travel size Relaxing Lavender scented Soapberry Hair Lather, a travel size Raw Unscented Soapberry Body Lather, and a muslin bag containing five soapberries (this set retails for $15). They also sent along an additional travel size Soapberry Body Lather in their Awakening Peppermint scent so I could try that, too. Overall, I’m very pleased with everything in the set. But before I describe my experience, let me tell you a little about Tree to Tub.

Tree to Tub Soapberry Products

Tree to Tub originally began through a highly successful Kickstarter campaign under the name “Soapberri.” Its founders, Michael and Brian, set out with this goal: “We wanted to change the way people clean by replacing harsh chemicals with nature’s most gentle soap, the soapberry.” In doing that, they’re also helping to preserve the native eco-reserves in Taiwan where local people harvest and process the wild soapberries that grow there. So they’re helping both the environment and the local communities, sustaining traditions that have been handed down for generations.

Soapberries can be used in many ways, from gentle face and hand soap to laundry detergent. The dried berries are hard, so before using them as soap, they must be softened in boiling water, then stored in the refrigerator. Using them in the laundry is much simpler; just tie the muslin bag closed and toss it in the washing machine with the clothes, then dry the soapberries before using them again (five times or more).

Now let me tell you about my experience with the Soapberry Experience Set. The Raw Unscented Soapberry Body Lather is my favorite product from the set. A small amount on my shower pouf, washcloth, or between my palms made a nice lather that rinsed easily and left my skin feeling clean and soft. Likewise, the Soapberry Hair Lather’s mild lather rinsed out cleanly and left my hair shiny, bouncy, and smelling lightly of lavender. As for the bag of soapberries, I just added to my front-loading washing machine with a load of laundry and let it do its magic. I’ve used it twice so far, and both batches of laundry came out clean, with no soap residue. Nothing I washed was particularly dirty or stained; if it had been, I would have used a regular pre-treater on any stains.

What’s not to like about things that do what they’re intended to, while supporting local communities without harming the environment? I think they would make great gifts for new parents or for people with sensitive skin or who prefer eco-friendly cleaning products. Check out the Tree to Tub website for more information or to buy their products.

5 Great Ideas for Organizing Your Cleaning Closet

5 Great Ideas for Organizing Your Cleaning Closet

5 Great Ideas for Organizing Your Cleaning ClosetOver the past few years, I’ve confessed on this blog many times that I’m a neat & clean freak. Matter of fact, you’ll find an entire section here on the blog that is dedicated to cleaning tips and cleaning product reviews. In my opinion, keeping a clean and organized home helps to save time and it definitely helps to cut down on the spread of germs.

When it comes to organizing your cleaning closet for the first time, you need to take everything out of it…give it a good cleaning and then start organizing it. You always want to make sure you toss out the old & expired products and if you need plastic bins and other items to organize things on a shelf…hit up the Dollar Store for those items. In addition, if you have small children & pets in the house…invest in some type of lock for the door, which will keep everyone safe!

I love to shop on Amazon and today, I thought I would share some of my favorite items to help get your cleaning closet organized. Please read my disclosure located at the bottom of this blog post.

broom and mop organizer

1. SySrion Mop and Broom Holder is an item that I personally own! I got this item for review recently and absolutely LOVE it! You can hang it on a wall or on the back of a door. It will hold up to 11 cleaning tools, including mops, brooms, dust pans, duster wands, etc. You can hang up your items via the hooks and slide the handles of your brooms & mops into the slots for easy access. This keeps all of your items organized and stored in one place! Plus, if you use a mop…by hanging it up to dry, it will dry quicker and without any nasty smells! It’s currently out of stock but if it comes back in…I’ll update this post with the link.

2. Pro-Mart DAZZ Rubberized Pop-Up Caddy is a great caddy to fill up with all of your cleaning supplies and take it room-to-room with you as you clean. It has 7 compartments to hold your cleaning solution bottles, dusting cloths, paper towels, etc. Gotta love that easy carrying handle too. You can collapse it flat for storage or let all of your products sit inside it and on a shelf for when you need them.

3. mDesign AFFIXX, Peel-and-Stick Adhesive Organizer for Laundry & Utility Room is a great little item for those of you who are limited on space. I love that it’s made out of clear acrylic and you can easily see your items sitting inside it, plus…you don’t have to drill any holes or slam any nails into your walls or the back of your door to use it. Just peel & stick! A great item to hold your smaller cleaning bottles, sponges, SOS pads, scrubbies, lint rollers, etc.

4. Slim Storage Cabinet Organizer Rolling Pull Out Cart Rack Tower with Wheels features 3 shelves and is designed to fit in narrow spaces. I have one just like this that sits in my cleaning closet. I can wheel it out when I need to and I can quickly see the product that I want and get on my way. You can also slide it in between a narrow space like between 2 cabinets in your kitchen or between your washer & dryer in the laundry room. Matter of fact, that’s a great idea, so now I need a second one for my laundry room!

5. Pro-Mart DAZZ 42-Pocket Over-the-Door Organizer is absolutely fantastic for those of you who are really limited on space. It can go over any closet door in your home. This organizer features 42 spacious double mesh pockets and would be a great item to hold your cleaning products, dusting polishes, extra clean sponges, scrubbies, dusting cloths, extra dusting heads, etc. You know, all of those medium to smaller sized products that you need to get organized, but yet keep them handy!

broom and mop organizer for cleaning closet

I personally own the exact item mentioned in tip #1 and you can see a photo of it hanging inside my cleaning closet. I got it for a review a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVE IT! Matter of fact, hubby wants another one so that he can hang it in the garage to hang up his rakes, snow shovels & other yard work tools.

While I don’t own the EXACT other items I’ve mentioned in this feature today, I do own similar products to the ones that I’m suggesting to help get your cleaning closets organized. What products do you use to help get things organized and cleaned up? Got an favorites?
