Important Playground Safety Tips for Kids

Important Playground Safety Tips for Kids

Like most children my kids enjoy playing at one of our neighborhood playgrounds. Within a 5 minute drive we have three different ones to choose from. Playgrounds typically offer swings, sliding boards, jungle gyms, ball fields, merry-go-rounds, etc. for children to play on. I’m a

Boy's Birthday Party Construction Site Theme IdeasI have 2 young children and every year I look forward to hosting their birthday parties. My daughter celebrates her birthday in the late spring and my son celebrates his birthday in the early fall. Every year when their birthday rolls around I let them pick a theme for their party…then I get busy planning it.

Birthday Party Construction Site Cupcake Wrappers and Toppers

Last September my son selected a construction site and construction vehicles theme for his birthday party. I made all of the food, party decorations, the hands-on craft projects, take-home goodies, etc. From start to finish, I planned it all and I did it on a budget.

Over the past few months I’ve shared many of my Construction Site Birthday Party Ideas with the readers of this blog. Today I’m going to round-up all of those posts and link them into this post to make them easier for you to find.

To save money on a custom-made cake I opted to make my own Construction Site Theme’d Cupcakes. You can go to the store and buy a box of cake mix or purchase ready-made cupcakes. You’ll then want to head on over to Amazon and purchase these adorable cupcake wrappers and toppers. On the morning of the party you’ll finish your cupcakes by placing them into the wrappers & adding the topper-picks which only takes a few minutes to do.

When I host birthday parties for young kids I like to plan out a hands-on craft activity for them to do. As each child arrives for the party they’re directed to the craft table that I have set up and given instructions on the craft project. Parents can elect to assist them with the project or mingle with other parents until the party is ready to begin. For this theme I had the kids decorate their own plastic construction helmets or construction hats which I purchased from Amazon. They can decorate them with provided stickers and markers. These helmet then become their party hats & they get to take them home with them. The kids really enjoyed making them.

The day before the party I whipped up these fun and easy-to-make Dirt Chocolate Pudding Cups with Gummy Worms. Let’s face it…what kid doesn’t love eating gummy worms? You will need to purchase some chocolate pudding cups, gummy worms and chocolate cookies to make them. I had them all made in less than 35 minutes and ready-to-go. I recommend making them the day before the party.

Another fun birthday party treat that works with the construction site theme are these adorable Paint Brush Rice Krispies Treats that I made. To save time you can purchase ready-made Rice Krispies Treats or make your own at home. You’ll then want to follow my directions on how to turn them into paint brush treats. The kids and the parents really loved them! The kids can eat them at the party or take them home with them.

I decided to get creative with the birthday party goody bags & take-home treat bags by buying canvas tool aprons from The Home Depot. If you want to save a little bit of money you can buy “generic” versions of the canvas tool aprons from Amazon. What I really like about this idea is that these canvas tool aprons are reusable. The kids can play with them at home, use them during art class, etc. Unlike plastic, disposable party loot bags. I think this idea is much more eco-friendly and like I said, can be reused!

We set up a little candy station for the kids using plastic bins we picked up at our local home store and from Amazon. They come in a yellow color which fits perfectly with the theme. You can read how we assembled them and what kind of goodies we served in them by checking out my Boy’s Construction Site Birthday Party Theme Ideas that I previously posted. After the party my husband snagged the plastic bins and is using them in the garage to hold his tools. Gotta love that!

Party Decorations for this party theme are a lot of fun! You can use caution zone and yellow caution tape instead of using streamers. You can buy construction vehicles like dump trucks, back hoes, etc. and load them up with party food & snacks. Make your own banners and streamers to decorate the party room. Use the vehicles to decorate the tables and party room. The birthday boy will have all kinds of new trucks & toys to play with after the party is over.

If you have a little boy or a little girl who loves construction vehicles and anything to do with construction sites…this would be the perfect Birthday Party theme to work with. You can do it on a budget by making all of the food, party decorations and supplies yourself. All of the kids loved this theme and the parents loved that their kids had great items to take home with them from attending the party!

Boy’s Construction Site Birthday Party Theme Ideas

Boy's Construction Site Birthday Party Theme IdeasBack in early September we hosted my son’s 3rd birthday party in a construction site party theme. We made all of the food and made all of the decorations for his party. I’ve been sharing all of our party ideas here on the blog for the past 6 weeks and I’m back today to share 2 more!

If you’re looking for the Kid’s Plastic Yellow Construction Hats you can get them from Amazon for a really great price! You get 12 of them per package! We left each child decorate their own party hat with markers and stickers as a party craft activity. They then wore them around at the party and took them home. You can read all about our Construction Hat Kid’s Birthday Party Idea by visiting our previous post about it.

Construction Site Birthday Party Bags - Tool Aprons

Construction Site Birthday Party Bags

At The Home Depot store I found these adorable child-size canvas tool aprons and purchased them. Instead of having birthday party loot bags, I opted to put all of the kid’s party favors inside the pockets of the canvas tool aprons. The pockets are generous in size, so you can get a lot into them. After the party the kids can use them as arts & crafts aprons, etc. A nice party favor for the kids to take home and something not thrown away after the party.

If you don’t want to run out to The Home Depot you can find something really similar to use over on Amazon. I think the solid white 2-pocket canvas aprons from Amazon would be good choices to use too.

We displayed them on the party table and stuffed them with candy, fruit snacks, pencils, mini tablets, mini activity books, mini rulers, etc. If you don’t want to stuff them with candy, you can go to your local “Dollar Type of Store” and look for plastic tools, mini cars, etc. The kids and parents loved them!!!

Birthday Party Construction Site Treat Bins

Birthday Party Construction Site Treat Bins

At The Home Depot store I found white-colored plastic parts trays. I believe that is what they were called. I picked up 3 of them along with a bottle of bright yellow spray paint. Once we got home I sprayed them with the paint and left them dry. The paint is not food-safe, so you’ll need to line your trays with paper towels, plastic wrap, waxed paper, aluminum foil, etc. before placing food into them.

I wish I had checked out Amazon before purchasing them at The Home Depot because Amazon has the Yellow Plastic Parts Storage Bins in a bright yellow color, so you can completely avoid painting them and all of that jazz. Well, now I know for the next time around!

We made labels from black and yellow construction paper to label the front of each treat bin. We wanted our party treats to resemble construction site items, so here is what we came up with and some additional ideas.

Nails: Pretzel Sticks
Rope: Red Licorice
2×4’s: Vanilla Wafer Sticks
Tires: Chocolate Creme Filled Cookies
Cement Blocks: Mini Square Rice Krispies Treats
Washers: Colored Life Saver Candies

Next week I’ll do a complete round-up and link-up on all of my Boy’s Construction Site Party Theme Ideas that I’ve posted the past few weeks, so that you can find them all from one blog post (page). This was a really fun birthday party theme to work with and was a big HIT with all of our guests!
