Book Review: The Soul Mate Myth by Jean Cirillo, PhD

Today I get to review a new book for all of you and there will be a giveaway for one too! Today’s book review deals with dating, love and relationships and it’s a hardcover book called “The Soul Mate Myth” by Jean Cirillo, PhD and this book is A 3-Step Plan for Finding Real Love! This book has 243 pages and the ISBN 13: 978-1-4405-1271-1 and is a self-help/relationship book.

Book Synopsis: Dr. Jean Cirillo arms women with the tools to transform their brain chemistry, in order to combat fear and perfectionism, see love with fresh eyes, set realistic expectations, and identify and pursue exciting and attainable new possibilities for love. Dr. Cirillo reminds single women that real life is not as Walt Disney presented it to be, “In my years as a practicing psychologist I have seen women spend their best years searching for the fantasy Mr. Right, who can never be found because he does not exist. Couples sometimes split because one thinks they have found their true soul mate, only to be sorry later. These observations inspired me to condense everything I knew into this three-step program designed to help women in choosing their life partner.”

Jenelle’s Review: This hardcover book is presented to you in 3 steps or large sections of the book and then each section/steps has smaller chapters. Step One: is a Reality Check: A toolkit for understanding how bad you’ve got it and is broken down into 3 smaller chapters: (a) Great Expectations (b) Your Brain on Love (c) The Fear Barrier. In Step Two: Rewiring Your Brain – Teach Yourself How To Love you will find 2 chapters called: (a) Letting Go A Little (b) Grieving For The Mythic Man. Step Three: is Rebuilding Your Ideal Man – Setting Standards Without Settling and is broken down into 3 chapters called (a) Authentic Relationships (b) The Main Ingredients (c) The Little Things You’ll Love.

It took me a little over a week to read this book…it is a smooth and easy read and really easy to understand. Matter of fact, the further I got along in the book, the more it all made sense to me. As little girls we all believe that we are “Princesses” and that some day when we grow up we will meet our perfect “Prince” and live a Fairytale life…as we all know, that rarely if ever happens. Every relationship has trials and tribulations and often times it is because we are all searching for the perfect “man” and the perfect “relationship” and the truth is…there is NO perfect man and NO perfect relationship. I really enjoyed reading this book and it has taught me a lot. I am going to read it again later next month when I have more time. It’s a great book on love and relationships!

Giveaway: One lucky winner is going to win a copy of this hardcover book! It is will be postal-mailed to the winner after the giveaway closes.

Love in a Nutshell by Janet Evanovich and Dorien Kelly Book Review

One of my favorite types of books to read is romantic comedy. Funny, quirky and easy to read, this genre is great for a light hearted story on a lazy day. I just love escaping into a great book that makes me laugh and feel

A Princess and Her Garden Book Review

I think many women have the “I have to do more” gene in their psyche. I don’t know if we are born with it or it is instilled from our mothers. Women tend to do for everyone else first and then, if there is time,

The Rancher by Dawn Nelson Book Review

I love to read books and have not been taking the time to do so. With all of technology around me, I find they are a perfect way to unwind and just get lost.  Yep, old school in real, paper pages.  I was excited to get a copy of The Rancher to review. Dawn Nelson is local to me and I looked forward to reading a story that could possibly have reference to places I’ve been to.

As it is the third book in the series I expected to take a bit to get to know the main characters, but not so.  I was caught up with the basics of who they are within the first two short chapters and hooked by the third.  With a lot of work still on my to do list, this wasn’t a good thing lol  But taking time to relax is necessary and makes me more productive.

I love books with a strong female character and Laura Dawson is definitely that. Other’s wishes, goals and motherhood put her initial plans and dreams for her life on hold, but she didn’t let that stop her. Getting past a cheating husband and being a single parent to build a ranch she was proud of.

I’m also a sucker for cranky old men with a chip on their shoulders, which is exactly what the other lead characters dad is. lol I’ve known a lot of these kind of old men and they always end up being such softies, you just have to break them gently.  I loved watching that happen.

The story does a great job of pulling me in with the revenge theme and worry for the characters. I mean right off the bat from the first chapter I was sad for Marnie and Tucker and how they’d obviously gone through a ton before we met them. Now that they found each other, she is deathly sick.  Then we get to go into the whole revenge aspect of it and worry some more. I won’t go into details, that’s totally part of the hook of why you need to read it for yourself!

And I do recommend reading it yourself. I haven’t picked up a new series in quite some time because I find myself getting pulled in and needing more of the characters. This book is a prime example of WHY I generally stick to that decision. Arghh, the darn characters that become like friends and you have to learn more.

Now it’s time for me to go get books one and two, Cowgirl’s Justice and The Colt, so I can read all about how Laura got to this point in the series.  I’ll look forward to the next book in the series coming out next year, Wanted: Dead or Alive.

Thank you to Gray Dog Press for the opportunity to lose myself in a good book.
