Hand Painted Snowman Seashell Designs

Hand Painted Snowman Seashell Designs

Hand Painted Snowman Seashell DesignsNow that all of the Christmas holiday decorations have been put away…my house was lacking some winter decor. I sat down last weekend and painted a few snowman seashells which turned out adorable! They’re the perfect little home decor accent for the winter season that aren’t holiday related! You can put them out in December and leave them out until Spring!

If you enjoy painting on seashells or crafting with seashells…you’ll find over 150+ seashell craft projects right here on the Two Classy Chics blog! We will be sharing more seashell craft projects in the future too!

The snowmen design was painted onto large 4″ and 5″ wide clam shells that I collected from the beach. Wash them in warm, soapy water using Dawn PowerWash Liquid Dish Soap. It does the BEST job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. I let them soak for about 15 minutes and then rinse them with clean water. Lay them out in a single layer to dry overnight.

Each shell was base coated with blue acrylic paint using a paint brush. Two coats were needed with 40 minutes of drying time between coats. I used light blue and a medium blue for the background. Leave the paint completely dry.

Use a pencil to sketch the easy snowman shapes onto the front of the seashells. To make all of the design work super easy I used a set of Acrylic Paint Markers that I picked up from Amazon. I like using a combination of BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers and Tooli-Art Paint Markers. BETEM paint markers are much more affordable and don’t require any priming, no drippy messes, no foul paint odors, no clogged tips and they dry fast. I like using Tool- Art Fine Tip Paint Markers for outlining and for writing words onto the shells.

After you have done all of the design work it’s important to let the seashells dry for several hours or overnight to give the paint time to cure. Even though it’s dry to the touch…it needs to cure! After at least 8 hours you need to seal the paint by spraying on 1-2 light coats of a Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer or by brushing on 1-2 light coats of Clear Mod Podge Glossy Sealer. I used Mod Podge on these 2 particular painted seashells. Let dry for 1-2 hours. That’s it, you’re done!

Last month I purchased a pack of the Fairy and Floral Rub-On Transfers Decals for Crafts from Amazon. This pack contains 12 sheets of beautifully designed fairies, floral items and butterflies. I think they’re the perfect designs to add to the shells that I’m decorating for the upcoming Spring season. They’re colorful and absolutely beautiful.

Each sheet measures 5.9″ in size. There are several designs on each sheet. These rub-on transfers are very easy to use! You simply cut-out the design that you want to use. Peel off the backing. Place the transfer down onto your item. Use a wooden popsicle stick to rub the transfer from the sheet and onto your project. Then pull off the covering. Viola, you’re done!!!

Painted Seashells with Rub-on Decals Transfers

You can apply these beautiful rub-on decals onto various different surfaces: wood, glass, mirrors, clean and smooth seashells and rocks, paper (greeting cards and scrapbooking), metal, smooth ceramic & tile surfaces, etc. If you want to protect the decal from water or weather elements I do suggest that you coat over it with an Acrylic Spray Sealer or brush-on 1-2 light coats of Clear Mod Podge Sealer.

I’ve been using my new decals on large 4″ to 5″ wide clam shells that I collected from the beach. I also used 4 of them to decorate a plastic storage box that my granddaughter uses to hold her little hair accessories in. You can really get creative with them!

Head on over to Amazon if you’re interest in purchasing the Fairy and Floral Rub-On Transfers Decals for a really accordable price. You get 12 total sheets!
