I do a lot of painting on ceramic, glass, tiles, seashells and smooth river rocks. I share hundreds of arts and crafts projects on the TCC blog every year. One thing that I require in the projects that I share are 1. affordability 2. Easy to complete and 3. Don’t take days to make! I think that’s why our arts and crafts projects are so popular with every day families.

Last week I purchased the Sunee Acrylic Dual-Tip Paint Markers from Amazon. These markers contain acrylic paint and feature a dual tip. On one end you’ll find a medium tip and on the other end a fine tip. You get 18 colors in the box in beautiful pastel and classic colors.
These acrylic paint markers require no priming, they don’t drip, leak, or have any foul paint odors. Just remove the cap and use! Another added benefit is that they dry super fast. You’re not waiting for an hour or two for the paint to dry. You use the medium point for coloring in larger sized areas and the fine point for writing words and outlining. There’s a lot you can do with these paint markers.
Let’s talk about affordability. I’ve spent $50 for a set of 12 high-end paint markers that need priming, clog and all sorts of other things. While they’re nice markers and easy-to-use I don’t appreciate the priming and clogging factor, nor the price. The Sunee Acrylic Dual-Tip Paint Markers that I purchased from Amazon for less than $10.00 are of a lesser quality (admit that) but much more affordable. Plus, the other benefits that I stated above. I feel they make a nice starter set or great for older kids who are getting into art.
The painted clam seashells that you see in this post were decorated using the set of Sunee Acrylic Paint Markers. As you can see…they do give you nice color and control when you’re using them. I’m pleased with the results! After painting on seashells, tiles or smooth river rocks you do want to seal the project with a clear coat of Mod Podge or a spray acrylic sealer. I used Mod Podge.

We love animals…all kinds of different animals. We’re also big believers that people need to ADOPT more pets insteady of buying them! There are millions of dogs, cats, hamsters, birds, etc. living in animal shelters just waiting to be adopted. Everyone needs to be a more responsible pet owner. Enough said.
Last month I started painting large 4″ and 5″ wide clam shells with the Adopt Don’t Shop message along with a paw print. I’ve been giving them out to friends and family members who have adopted (rescued) a dog or cat. It’s a little reward for doing the right thing by adopting!

These painted seashells are really easy to make. No artistic talent is needed. No pattern or template! All you need is the clam shell, acrylic craft paint, acrylic paint pens, paint brushes and a can of clear spray sealer. That’s it!!!
Getting Started: Always start by washing your shells in warm soapy water with Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. Why Dawn? It does the best job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. After soaking for 15 minutes, rinse with clean water and air dry.
Base coat the clam shell with 2 coats of acrylic craft paint in your desired color. Allow for 30 minutes of drying time between coats. Once the paint is dry you want to paint the large portion of the paw. It’s simply an ARC shape. Then paint the 4 little toes aka paw pads around the top (see photograph). Let dry.
The wordage is BEST added by using an acrylic paint pen in your desired color. Using a paint pen gives you more control. I like using paint pens with a fine tip or medium tip when writing words onto the clam shells. Let dry for 1-3 hours or until the paint is no longer tacky.
Take the seashells outside. Spray them with 1-2 light coats of a clear acrylic spray sealer. You need to spray BOTH sides of the painted shell. This will protect the painted finish and help to preserve the clam shell for years to come! You can display them inside or outside of your home.
