I’m a crafter and beginner artist. I dabble in all kinds of different things. For the past year I’ve been painting simple designs on smooth river rocks and large seashells. I often run out of ideas, so I use adult coloring books, especially doodling books for inspirtation. I’ll color-in the page in the book and then replicate that image onto another surface like the river rock or clam shell. It’s a great way to learn, practice and “hone” your artistic skills.
Even though these books state “adult coloring” they’re perfect for teenagers too. My 15 year old granddaughter and my 75 year old mother love them too! I often give them as gifts which I highly recommend that you do! Just remember to gift them with a pack of colored pencils or gel ink pens too. Slip into a medium-sized gift bag and you’re done! A nice gift that was affordable and will provide hours upon hours of artistic fun!

These adorable Easter Bunny painted clam shells are perfect to add to the little one’s Easter baskets this year. They’re also fun additions to add to your inside or outside Easter decor. For this project I used 3″ wide clam shells collected from the beach. Washed in warm, soapy water…rinse with clean water and air dry for 1-2 days. They need to be clean and dry before painting on them.
Base coat each seashell in the desired color. I used a medium blue color. Let dry until the paint is no longer tacky. I used a pencil to lightly sketch the design onto the shell. I didn’t use a template, just free-handed a simple design. Using BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers I colored in the design using the medium tip of the paint marker. I used the fine tip of the paint marker to add the facial features, wordage and to do all of the outlining. Let dry for 1 hour.
Note: Paint Markers are DIFFERENT than Sharpies, kid’s markers, etc. They’re markers that contain acrylic paint! I use the BETEM brand because there’s no priming, no foul odors, wash off your surfaces with soap & water, no drips, leaks, clogs, etc. They’re fantastic and I highly recommend the BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers that I purchased from Amazon for these type’s of projects.
Once the design work is done you need to seal the paint. You can seal it with 1-2 coats of brush-on Clear Mod Podge Sealer or with a spray-on Acrylic Clear Sealer. I used a foam brush and Mod Podge. Let dry overnight. I’ll be placing these two in my grandchildren’s Easter baskets this year.
