Hand Painted Kitty Cat Seashell DesignsLove cats? Looking to get a little creative? If so, we’ve got the perfect easy-to-make craft project for you! These adorable Kitty Cat painted seashells were made by my 14 1/2 year old granddaughter. If you don’t live near a beach you can pick up bags of seashells from Dollar Tree, Amazon, and craft supplies stores. You don’t need expensive shells! The kitty faces were painted on scallop and conkle shells.

Wash all seashells in warm, soapy water using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. Why Dawn? It does the best at removing sand, debris, grease, and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water. Air dry overnight. They need to be completely dry before you start crafting with them.

She opted to use metallic acrylic paint in gold and bronze for the background color. Each shell got 2 coats of paint with 30 minutes of drying time between coats. I think a silver metallic color would look great too!

Adding the facial features was really easy! She used Acrylic Paint Pen Markers to add the eyes, nose, mouth, whiskers and ears. You can pick up an inexpensive pack of Acrylic Paint Pen Markers from Amazon. Don’t use cheap markers or Sharpies, they tend to run when you apply clear sealer over-the-top. Let all of the paint thoroughly dry.

Seal in the painted design by applying 1-2 coats of Clear Modge Podge Sealer in a Glossy Finish using a foam brush. You’ll need to allow 30-40 minutes of drying time between coats. This protects the painted finish. You can then display them inside or outside.

Cute Funny Painted Kitty Cat Clam Shell Seashell DesignsThese cute and funny kitty cat seashells are really easy to make! These are simple designs that any one can make.

Wash and dry the clam shells. I like to soak them for 15 to 30 minutes in warm soapy water using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. Dawn does a great job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water and air dry overnight.

Base coat all of the clam shells with 2 coats of white acrylic craft paint allowing for 30-45 minutes of drying time between coats. Use a pencil to sketch the design (lightly) onto the seashells. It doesn’t have to be perfect! Just a simple cat face is all you need!

Keep things simple! I used BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers to color in the design, write the wordage and to outline the design. These paint markers have dual ended tips (a fine tip and a medium tip), requires no priming, no drippy messes and no foul odors to the paint. As an added bonus, they dry fast! If you want a colored background…use the medium tip on a paint marker to color in the background (like the pink ones) leaving just a smidgen of the original white background showing around the cat’s ouline. Let they completely dry.

Preserve the painted finish by brushing on 2 light coats of Clear Glossy Mod Podge. You’ll need to allow 30-45 minutes of drying time between coats. I recommend coating both sides of the seashell to help protect it. The Mod Podge dries clear and adds a nice glossy finish ontop of the painted surface.

You can display this cute and adorable kitty cat seashells inside or outside of your home. They add a nice pop of color to your garden areas outside. They make a great gift for the cat lover in your life too! I gave a few of them to our local vet.
