First, a confession: Before trying FroZip Disposable Ice Pop Bags during the last few weeks, I had never made an ice pop, nor had I even eaten a frozen pop since I was a little kid (and that was a very long time ago). But now that I know not only how easy it is to make homemade ice pops but how varied and delicious they can be, I’m completely sold!

I was such an ice pop rookie that I didn’t even know where to begin. But with some ideas from FroZip and suggestions from Shelly, I was off and running. I’ve made fruit juice pops, pudding pops, and flavored yogurt pops, and now I’m starting to realize that pretty much any liquid or semi-liquid can be frozen into a refreshing ice pop. FroZip Ice Pop Bags come in two sizes, 8”x2” and 5”x2”. For my review, I received a package of the larger bags, which hold about a half-cup each. The package includes a reusable collapsible funnel that makes filling the bags simple and mess-free (although I recommend keeping a firm grip on both the funnel and the bag to avoid slipping, and it doesn’t hurt to fill the bags in the sink just in case; I’m just sayin’). The bags have a handy fill line to ensure that you leave enough headspace for the filling to expand as it freezes.

I set my first FroZip Pops upright in a container in the freezer, but I found that later batches frozen horizontally were easier to squeeze out of the bag when it was time to eat them. And because the zip-top bags close securely, I didn’t have to worry about the filling leaking out before it was frozen.

If you’re like me, you’re always looking for a better way to take drinks on the go, and to make easy frozen summer snacks. Basically, FroZip Drink Pouches are heavy-duty zip-top plastic bags specifically designed for liquids. Their gusseted bottoms allow them to stand up, making them easy to fill and to be stable on any flat surface. The zip seal is leak-proof, so you can take your drink with you; they work with both hot and cold liquids, and they’re even freezer-safe. The material they’re made from is non-toxic and BPA and Phthalate free, so they’re perfectly safe.

Although these Drink Pouches are disposable, I’ve found that they’re sturdy enough to wash out and reuse. But since they are ultimately disposable, I won’t feel bad if I take one somewhere I can’t wash it, or if I tear or puncture one.

I particularly like using my FroZip Drink Pouches for smoothies. I can make a big batch of smoothies, use the included funnel to fill my Drink Pouches, then just zip them closed and pop them in the refrigerator or freezer, where they stay sealed and ready to go. I learned the hard way not to overfill the Pouches, though; there’s no fill line, so you have to be careful to leave plenty of head space in the Pouch. You should also be aware that once you open the seal and insert your straw, the Pouch won’t be completely leak-proof; if it’s knocked over, some liquid may escape around the straw. To me, though, that’s not an issue, especially considering that I can grab my sealed Drink Pouch and take it with me anywhere without worrying about leaks until I intentionally open the seal (and the carrying holes in the top are handy, too).

Because the material is see-through and can be written on with a marker, these Drink Pouches would be great at a party or barbecue. Guests could easily identify their own drinks, and the host wouldn’t have to worry about breakable glasses being carried around and set down who-knows-where.
