Easy DIY Home Renovation Ideas

Easy DIY Home Renovation IdeasHome renovation doesn’t have to be scary, expensive, and time-consuming. You can knock out a few home renovation projects over the weekend! Read on for some simple ideas that will update your space.

1. If your kitchen needs an upgrade but you don’t want to invest in brand new cabinetry, refinish or reface your cabinets yourself. Paint, stain, or laminate them, or put on all new doors. Get new knobs, too.

2. Give your entryway – both inside and out – a facelift. A fresh coat of paint, new hardware, organization furnishings for coats and boots, and a two-toned color scheme will do wonders for your doorway and entry area.

3. Put a new backsplash in your kitchen. Go all out for pricey tile or save some money by opting for tin ceiling tiles, magnetic paint, or even chalkboard paint.

4. Recessed lighting looks great, but it’s a pain to install and it costs a lot. Instead, add track lighting, which gives a similar effect but isn’t as difficult to install as can or pot lights.

5. Build your own headboards. Bed headboards can be made from practically anything – old shutters, skis, a magazine collage, fencing and other salvaged materials…

6. Replacing sink fixtures is a quick way to give your kitchen or bathroom an entirely new look. So long as the new faucet and fixtures don’t need a smaller hole, it’s a cinch to do on your own. Newer faucets also function better, so you’ll be improving more than just aesthetic appeal.

7. Does your entryway chandelier or the hanging light over your dining room table need an update? Swap out an big, outdated lighting fixture for a modern one.

8. Paint! This is one of the fastest and cheapest ways to give a humdrum room a whole new look. The smaller the room, the more bold you can go with the color.

In addition to painting I find that changing the knobs and hardware on doors, cabinets, dressers , etc can make a huge difference. Thanks for all the tips.

Painting and new hardware make huge changes. Good point on the sink…I need to do that. I know it would really make me feel better about the kitchen since I can’t do a makeover on it. Another thing to do is dress up your front porch/landscape. This makes you feel good as you drive by your home.

  3. This is great advice and it is always nice to see the results when these projects are finished in your home. I have to do a few of these soon.

  4. My house could really use some new paint in several of the rooms.
