Today we are reviewing an educational kid’s DVD for all of you from the great folks at Master-Comm titled “ETHIOPIA”. The Worlds Together series includes DVDs on East Africa and West Africa which go along nicely with this Ethiopia DVD.
The World’s Together series takes you to countries that are fascinating yet not on the top of the list of usual travel destinations. This documentary introduces their culture, history, food, geography and people to the viewer.
Ethiopia provides a ground level view of a lightly visited part of the world. Visit the cities of Hara, Addis Ababa. See the 800 year old Christian churches of Lalibela, some carved into volcanic rock. See the wonderful diversity of the people of Ethiopia as they go about their lives. This is a glimpse in time of a people just shaking off the slumber of isolation and who are about to join the world.
The DVD is in English with English subtitles. It runs for approximately 25 minutes and comes with a Teacher’s Guide in PDF format.
My Little G is too young for this type of video so I passed it along to my BFF who has a 15 year old son who loves studying sociology and other cultures. She sat down to view the DVD along with him and she said it was excellent. As an adult, she learned a lot about a people and culture that she knew nothing about. Her son N really loved the video too and is going to ask his teacher if he can bring it to school and they watch it together as a class.
My BFF said that even if you are considering taking a trip to any where in Africa, this DVD would give you a lot of insight on the people, traditions, foods and cultures of the African people, particularly those who live in Ethiopia.
