Craft Project – Valentine’s Day Conversation Heart Refrigerator Magnets

Valentine's Day Conversation Heart Refrigerator MagnetsLooking for a fun craft project to do with the kids for Valentine’s Day? These Conversation Heart Refrigerator Magnets are easy-to-make and can be made from a variety of different materials. You can use 1 to 1 1/2″ diameter unfinished wooden hearts or heart shapes made from saltdough or cinnamon applesauce dough. In this case…we used cinnamon applesauce. You can grab the recipe for cinnamon applesauce dough HERE.

Heart Shapes (see above)
Acrylic Craft Paints
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish
Refrigerator Magnets
Quick Drying Craft Glue

Base coat the hearts in 2-3 colors of acrylic craft paint in your desired colors allowing for 20-30 minutes of drying time between each coat. Once the paint is dry it’s time to decorate them.

You can write whatever wordage on them that you would like. We wanted them to resemble Conversation Hearts Candies. Some of the wordage that we used are:

Hug Me
Kiss Me
Hugs
Sweetie
Cutie
Kiss
Kisses
XOX
Be Mine
Sweet
Happy
Love

After you have added the wordage you’ll want to decorate the boarder of each one. Dip the end of the paint brush into your desired paint color and go around the perimeter making colorful polka dots. Let dry for 2 hours before proceeding or when the paint is no longer tacky.

Take them outside and spray them with 1-2 coats of Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer in a Glossy Finish. Let dry for 2 hours or until no longer tacky. Glue a strong magnet on the back of each heart. Let dry for 8 hours. That’s it…you’re done! They’re now ready to be displayed on the front of your refrigerator or file cabinet. Great for showing off your kids artwork or Valentine’s Day cards that you receive.
