Summer is my favorite time of the year. We love to spend time outdoors in our swimming pool, gardening, walking, hiking and visiting the beach as often that we can. Living in the northeast means that our summers are short, so we have to take advantage of the warmer weather while we can.

We kicked off the start of the summer season last weekend with a family barbecue and pool party. Hubby loves playing “master chef” with his barbecue grill and whipped up some delicious hamburgers, hot dogs and steaks. My daughter and mother brought the side dishes and veggies while I whipped up the desserts, including homemade ice cream.
Our grandchildren love the water and during the summertime they’re often at our house enjoying the swimming pool. Princess took 2 years of swim lessons and is a pretty good swimmer. Prince is only 3 and we’re hoping to enroll him in swim lessons later next month. They will stay in the water for hours…no matter how cold the water gets! Luckily though, we keep our pool water heated!
We hauled out our backyard games and enjoyed a round of cornhole, ring toss and bocce ball. Next weekend my husband will put up our volley ball net and is making new pits for horseshoes. Yes, we spend a lot of time outdoors as a family.
Have you kicked off the summer season yet? How do you like to spend your summer? Have you planned a summer vacation? If so, where will you be heading?

Learning to swim is a very important skill for all people. It does sound like you have a lot of fun games for the pool and backyard.
It is really starting to heat up here where I live sure wish I could jump in your pool it looks so refreshing and fun. I love summer too I love swimming and having BBQs with friends and family.
We have gotten our summer toys and activities out to enjoy in the back yard and been able to have a few outdoor barbeques and picnics. We have also gone to the beach in search of shells but not in the water yet.
As a kid, I just wanted to spend every day of Summer at the local YMCA pool. I still love the water.
I am glad they are getting lessons. I am so afraid of children falling in a pool. Happy summer to you and your pool buddies.
What is it about BBQ cookouts and swimming pools, as they go hand in hand. Pool playing is wonderful exercise for anyone and a great way for the little ones to use up some of their unlimited energy.
