How many of you are big fans of lighthouses? I love them! Every time we travel I do a web search to see if any lighthouses are nearby. The majority of lighthouses are found along the coast, but there are indeed some lighthouses that are located inland along rivers, large lakes and throughout the back bays.
The Tinicum Lighthouse is located along the banks of the Delaware River in New Jersey. It stands 85 feet tall and is made out of steel. If you want to reach the top you’ll need to climb 112 steps which lead to the lantern room.
If you enjoy touring lighthouses you’ll find this one open for public tours April through September. I recommend checking out their website for their official operating schedule. Admission is free, but a donation is appreciated. Throughout the year they hold various activities and you’ll find a list of those on the website too.
I’ve been documenting all of the lighthouses that we’ve seen and toured over the past 30 years and this one is the 34th one that I’ve seen. Each one is really unique and I love learning about the history of the lighthouse and the keepers who took care of it over the years.
This looks like an interesting lighthouse. I have never seen one made out of steel .
I’m from Jersey. How could I have missed that one.
Being in the Midwest I think our nearest is likely around the Great Lakes. I have seen few lighthouses and have never been in one. I do think they are fascinating. This one is really different looking. I would love to learn the history of it.
I am a big fan of lighthouses I just have always loved them. So many of them along our coast are so beautiful. It has been so many years since I have toured one I sure would like to do that again. Thank you for sharing this picture.
That looks really neat. I really like lighthouses, and I’ll put this on my list of places to see.
I do like touring lighthouses and we have plenty in the Northwest. Also toured some very interesting ones on Cape Cod.
You are 32 lighthouses ahead of me. I do think they are interesting, but we don’t have any at all here in Colorado.
