Looking for an easy arts and craft project to do with the kids this weekend? If so, we got one for you! Check out these cute ghost, pumpkin and candy corn painted rocks. They’re great for Halloween decor! You can use them as decor accents in your home or once sealed…they can be placed outside as part of your Halloween decorations. We will be placing ours along the side of the steps leading up to our front porch.

The 3 designs in this post were made by kids ages 9 through 15. You will need to supervise younger children. No pattern or template is needed. The designs were painted on smooth rocks that we picked up along a creek in our neighborhood. Wash the rocks in warm soapy water and rinse clean. Let them air dry overnight before you paint on them. The smoother the rock, the easier it is to paint!
Kids can do any design that they would like. Feel free to use our designs for inspiration. Check out our blog for over 300+ painted seashell and rocks arts and craft projects! All are easy to make!

Here are the craft supplies that you’ll need.
Smooth Rocks
Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Pack of BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers
Mod Podge Clear Sealer, Glossy Finish
We recommend letting the kids use a combination of acrylic craft paints with a pack of acrylic paint markers. Acrylic craft paint and a paint brush was used to base coat the rocks with white paint (2 coats). Once the paint was dry…the kids used a pack of BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers to make the designs on top. These paint markers have dual-ended tips (one medium and one fine). They don’t require priming, no leaky or drippy messes and no foul paint odors!!! No brush is needed when using the markers. Plus, they dry a lot faster than traditional paint.
Let all of the rocks dry for 2-3 hours or until the paint is no longer tacky.
Dip a brush into Clear Mod Podge Sealer and brush-on 1-2 light coats of sealer. It goes on white but will dry crystal clear. You want to seal all sides of the rock to help protect the design. This will allow it to be displayed indoors or outdoors. Let them dry overnight. That’s it, you’re done!
