Back in November 2025 I published a post on our blog about the Maryland Horseshoe Crab Research Projects. In October of 2025 we stumbled upon hundreds of deceased horseshoe crabs lying on a beach in North Wildwood, New Jersey. We took several photographs at the time and documented the research tag numbers on several crabs that we had found. By documenting the tag numbers, I mean we photographed them too!
Once we returned home in November we got online to report the tag number, location of the horseshoe crab and it’s status. This helps the researchers to track them for the research project that they’re conducting. It’s important that we all do our part to help…so if you find one of those horseshoe crabs lying on a beach along the east coast…please take the time to document it and report it.

Anyway, a few months ago we received a nice letter in the mail thanking us for taking the time to report the deceased horseshoe crabs that we had found on that particular day. To thank us for doing that…they sent us a metal horseshoe crab lapel pin. My wife absolutely loves that pin because she collects ocean and beach themed brooches and pins. She attaches them to a throw pillow that is sitting on a chair in our master bedroom. It’s her way of displaying her collection of broches and pins!
You can read my original Maryland Horseshoe Crab Research Project for information and to see photographs. I wanted to post this follow-up because I think it was really nice of them to send us the thank you letter and pin. I’ll link this post back to the original post too!
