Shooting Off Fireworks in Residential Neighborhoods is DANGEROUS

July 1, 2026 by Sam H. Leave a Comment

I love the various holidays that we celebrate throughout the year. It’s always nice to get together with family and friends. Great food, fun activities  and conversations are always great for family bonding. With that said….I do have a gripe about holidays and fireworks!

We live in a residential neighborhood with the majority of the homes in our development being older. At the one end of our development lives a family that INSISTS on shooting off fireworks for New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Birthdays, July 4th, Major Sporting Events, Labor Day, Christmas Eve and for any other reason that they deem fit. I’m talking at least a dozen times a year they’re lighting off fireworks! It’s ridiculous!

Don’t get me wrong…our family enjoys going out and seeing fireworks that are handled by professionals at various local events. What we don’t enjoy is fireworks being shot across our neighborhood! They’re too loud and they’re a fire hazard to say the least! On top of that, those fireworks scare every pet in the neighborhood. Most of us in the development have dogs and/or cats. NONE of our pets enjoy the noise caused by the big BANG of the fireworks. It’s sets off terrible anxiety in pets.

Several members in our family and circle of friends work at local hospitals. Every holiday they get patients coming into the ER suffering with burns from lighting fireworks! Is getting a severe burn to your body worth it? What about those same fireworks lighting houses and trees on fire? Are you going to fork out the money to pay for the damages? What if you accidentally injure or kill an innocent resident in our community? Worth the jail time and money damages you’ll have to pay out?

Seriously…those who are shooting off fireworks in residential neighborhoods need to stop! We need laws and ordinances issuing fines to those who do it. Fireworks should be left to the professionals to handle! When calling the police about it…they need to come out and shut it down and warn those who are doing it. It just needs to stop!
