How many times have you walked into a restaurant, cafe or diner and been handed a plastic coated menu that is cruddy and with fingerprints all over it? I bet it has been dozens if not hundreds of times! What really irks me regarding those type’s of menus is the lack of cleaning them between customers. That’s right, 90% of the time the menu is just tossed back onto the table or in a pile without being disinfected!
During Covid I became much more aware of the things that I touch and come into contact with while I’m out in public. Uncleaned restaurant menus is one of them! The majority of the time they clean just the table-top. They don’t take the extra minute to wipe down the menus or your seating. It’s all about getting customers in and out of the door quickly with no regards to keeping us healthy while we’re there. Now that the pandemic is over…they’ve all gone back to their normal routines.

In my honest opinion…restaurants need to ditch those plastic covered menus and switch over to paper menus. That paper can be disposed of in a recycling container for paper products after each customer is done with it. There’s no cross-contamination of germs! While it may cost the restaurant a few pennies to be printing or copying paper menus…it’s worth it to help stop the spread of germs while dinning out. Raise your customer prices by a few cents if you have to…but seriously…ditch the old-style menus!
After I handle a gross, uncleaned menu I excuse myself from the table to go wash my hands. I’m not touching food after I’ve touched a menu that was handled by dozens, if not hundreds of other people. Nope, no way!
