The United State of America is getting ready to celebrate it’s 250th Anniversary. In honor of the anniversary and the upcoming patriotic holidays of Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veteran’s Day, I painted a dozen seashells to use as party favors this summer. They can double as home decor accents too. All of the designs are really easy to make and you ONLY need a few arts and craft supplies to make them.

You’ll need to collect some seashells from the beach or purchase them from Amazon. Wash all shells using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. Dawn does a great job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water and then lay them out to air dry overnight. They need to be completely dry before painting on them.
Using a paint brush….base coat all of the seashells with a coat of white acrylic craft paint. This base coat will allow the colors you place on top to be more vivid. Trust me, the base coating really makes a big difference on how colorful your shells will be. Let dry.
To keep all of the painting design work super easy I used a pack of BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers that I purchased from Amazon. They have dual-tips…a medium and a fine tip. Use the medium tip for larger areas and the fine tip for outlining and writing wordage. Use my photograph to give you some design inspiration. The BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers don’t require priming, no clogged tips, no drippy messes and no foul paint odors. Plus, the paint dries fairly quickly.
Once all the paint is dry you need to seal them. I like brushing on 1-2 light coats of Clear Mod Podge Sealer. It goes on white but will dry crystal clear. You can apply it using a regular or foam paint brush. Let the seashells dry overnight.
