How to Clean Bird Poop off Your House and Porch

May 27, 2026 by Sam H. Leave a Comment

We enjoy the spring and summer seasons but we don’t enjoy the birds making nests all over our front porch, back deck, in our window boxes, on top of lighting fixtures, etc. We love animals and nature…but every year we get tired of taking down their nests and cleaning all of the bird poop after the breeding season. It’s NOT a little bit of bird poop….it’s massive amounts of poop! The photograph above shows one front porch light fixture that they’ve taken over!!!

First things first…do NOT remove any nests that have eggs or babies inside them. Around here, it’s against the law. We have to wait until the babies have fledged the nest. Second, don’t let the bird poop just sit. It’s acidic and contains all kinds of bacteria. You want to get it cleaned up as soon as possible. Wear gloves when removing nests to protect your hands and wash them immediately after with soap and water.

One of the best products that I found to remove bird poop is Krud Kutter. You can buy it from Amazon and from most home and garden type’s of stores. Read the instructions thoroughly. I like to spray down the surface with the Krud Kutter and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. I then use our garden hose to spray it down. You want to use enough water to remove the Krud Kutter and the bird poop, rinse everything with clean water. The Krud Kutter does an excellent job, so I never need to use a sponge or cleaning brush to get it off.

Disposing of the nests…you can toss them into the woods away from your home. If you can’t, bag them up and toss into the outside garbage can. Again, make sure you’re wearing gloves when handling them.

Every spring and summer we have to go through this process. I think they love our property due to the 3 bird feeders we have out in our backyard. Bird watching is a pleasure…cleaning up their poop is NOT!
