We live in an area that is right on the Canadian Geese migration path. Twice a year…spring and fall we get a lot of geese visiting our property. They come to rest and feed during their migration. Sometimes they stop just for the night or a few days. What’s really cool is that some of them are really used to being around people and don’t runoff when we’re out in the yard. Of course…we don’t chase them or try to get close to them.
Having wildlife on our small property is nothing new. We occasionally get a few female (does) deer, ducks, geese, rabbits, possums, skunks and various birds who visit. We have several bird houses and bird feeders set up on the property which attracts them. On top of that, we have 3 veggie gardens and a large apple tree which attracts them too! In our yard…they’re welcomed and not considered pests.

A few times over the years we’ve caught ducks and geese in and around our swimming pool. That always worries me because of the chemically treated water but they seem to enjoy it. There aren’t any lakes or ponds in our area….a small creek about 2 miles away. They don’t have many natural water sources in the suburbs…so I guess they make-do with what’s available to them.
Here’s two photographs of some of the Canadian Geese who have been visiting us this year. They look nice and healthy…well-fed too!
