Last year my 77 year old mother had a hip replacement. Following the surgery the physical therapist recommended that we purchase 2-3 pairs of women’s barefoot slipper socks. At the time…I had though he meant traditional slipper socks with non-skid bottoms, but I was wrong. What he was recommending were better and much safer to be wearing on our feet!

Those in the medical profession really recommend that we were slippers and house shoes that stay firmly on our feet. Not the styles that have open backs and flop around. We should never run around in regular socks on slick floors. Those are “falls” just waiting to happen. Here’s a fact…the older we get the more prone we are to falling.

After looking at several retail stores in our area I couldn’t find the type of slipper socks the therapist was recommending. Finally, I got online and quickly found them on Amazon. Wow…they have a very nice selection of prints, colors and styles to choose from. When purchasing them you want to make sure they fit firmly onto the foot (no open backs)….have no straps, bows or other adornments that can come undone and cause tripping.
Look for styles that provide a cushioned insole with a non-skid rubber outsole. The uppers should be flexible and fit the foot almost like a sock. The majority of the styles available can be machined washed and hung to dry.
Since ordering 3 pairs for my mother…I’ve ordered 2 pairs for myself and a pair for my adult daughter. We all love them! Not only are they cute and comfortable to wear…but they will help to prevent slips and falls…sliding around on hardwood or tiled floors. Nothing can prevent falls 100% but at least I know I’m doing everything I can to help prevent them.
As an added bonus…they barely take up any room in an overnight bag or suitcase for when you’re traveling.
Looking for a safer alternative to traditional bedroom and house slippers? If so, I highly recommend that you check out the Barefoot Slipper Socks with Rubber Outsoles over on Amazon.
