Hanging Wood Heart with Scrabble Tile Lettering Craft Project

March 28, 2026 by Classystaff

Looking for an easy-to-make arts & craft project that would make the perfect Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or Valentine’s Day gift? Heck, they could be given to a loved one any time of the year. For this project you’ll need a pre-purchased wood heart, wood Scrabble letter tiles, paint and a few other basic supplies. You could make several of them in just one weekend.

Here’s the complete list of supplies needed:

Unfinished Wood Heart
Wood Scrabble Letter Tiles
Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush and Sponge
Gorilla Glue or Hot Glue Gun with Glue Sticks

You’ll want to plan out the word that you would like to spell before you get started. It will need to fit on the front of the heart. Words like: Mom, Mommy, Nanny, Dad, Daddy, Love, Love You, etc. all fit well. This will depend on the size of the unfinished wooden heart that you purchase.

Paint the heart with a paint brush in your desired color. I like to use acrylic craft paints because they give me good coverage, dry fast and there’s no foul paint odors. Once the paint is dry…dip a sponge into coordinating or contrasting color of paint and dab it around the edges of the heart or around the area that you’ll be gluing the Scrabble Tiles Letters on. You can keep things classic looking or getting fancy with your painted design. That’s entirely up to you. Let all of the paint dry.

I chose to use Gorilla Glue when gluing on the Scrabble Tile letter blocks. It gives a better hold. Plus, there’s no lumps, bumps or glue strings from using hot glue & a glue gun. I just think it looks nicer. It will take a little bit for the Gorilla Glue to set.

You can leave the hanging hearts as-is or add a fabric ribbon bow at the top, little metal jingle bells, small artificial flowers, tiny seashells, buttons, charms, beads or other small items if you wish to decorate the wooden hearts further. You can really get creative making them!
