We live in an area that has numerous Farmer’s Markets that are open to the public year round. There are several within 10 minutes of our home that service the city and suburbs. You can occasionally find produce deals there…but if you want the BEST fresh produce deals you’ll want to see out the smaller farmer’s markets out in the countryside. For us, that means a 25 minute drive which we feel is well worth it!
Here’s my haul from 2 weeks ago:
Large heads of cauliflower 2 for $5.00
Bag of carrots for $1.00
2 bags of green seedless grapes for $5.00
Large farm fresh eggs 3 dozen for $5.00
Large bag of onions for $3.00
One 50 lb. bag of mixed potatoes $8.00
All of those prices are LESS than the 3 grocery stores located near our home. The farmer’s market items are cheaper, fresher and a better quality.
Point of my post…I sometimes can find a good deal at the local farmer’s markets but the BEST DEALS I’m finding are from the smaller countryside markets that do require a little driving time. In my honest opinion, it’s worth the drive!!!
Over the coming weeks I’ll share with all of you want I made and how I preserved some of those 50 lbs. of potatoes! We love potatoes and eat them several times a week…eight bucks was a deal I couldn’t pass up!
