Over the past 15 years I’ve really noticed an increase in the amount of outdoor wall murals and artwork that I’m seeing. You see it painted on all kinds of different buildings when visiting cities and small towns alike. The majority of the time…this type of artwork is painted by local artisans from the area. They can be small pieces or take up the entire side of a building.
I’m one of the people who love seeing the artwork as I think it adds personality and beauty to the community. I’ve seen them completely rehab a building that was fall down and turn it into something fabulous with business space inside and beautiful artwork around the building on the outside. You see a lot more of this type of artwork in big cities, especially the downtown areas or in tourist towns and areas.
When my wife and I travel we personally seek out the outdoor wall murals because we love to see them. We typically photograph them and once we get home we will try to learn more about it by doing a few internet searches. Some times we learn a lot about it and sometimes we learn absolutely nothing! Either way, we were happy that we took the time to see it.
